Triple/Double

Andrew Lacey 03/26/2015

Here is a nice 1-4 Low set that gives your the inital option to have your point or lead guard take his man off the bounce. As that is playing out the other players create some movement to have defense looking to defend cutters. You can get a nice Hi-Lo out of your post game or catch and shoot option for your wings. UT-Martin 4 Low

Andrew Greer 03/26/2015

The Skyhawks had the ball with 6.3 seconds left down 2. Marshun Newell (2) sets to inbound the basketball. The set begins with the first option which is a triple stagger for a guard coming from the opposite corner to the ball side corner. After he was covered he cleared toward half court. Chandler Rowe (5) is the final screener. He opens up to catch the entry pass just inside the 3 pt. line. After the catch Newell sprints in to take the DHO and hits the game winning 3 from the corner. UCCS Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 03/26/2015

Here is a zone lob play used by head coach Jeff Culver at UCCS (University of Colorado-Colorado Springs). The UCCS Mountain Lions had an incredible season going 27-6 and winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship over Metro State. This play was used to get Derrick White (25.8 ppg) a dunk against a 2-3 zone defense. The play starts with the ball moving to the wing and back to the point guard. With White on the wing, a back-screen is set as he sneaks in behind the defense for a lob and a dunk. See More

Basketball Play - Motion Breakdowns - 3/1 Live

Motion Breakdowns - 3/1 Live

Randy Sherman 03/25/2015

3/1 Live (Part of Motion Offense Forum Drill Progressions) Objective: To use motion offense concepts to free the cutter for a basket. In this drill there are two screeners and one cutter (2) in each offensive group. The cutter is defended by X2. Diagrammed below are two of the nearly endless options that could come into play. There is now way to completely diagram all of the screens, cuts, reads and actions possible in this drill. The screeners' objective is to free the cutter (2) for a basket using motion offense concepts and maintianing top-side-side alignment. This is live and competiive drill. Drill Restrictions: Only the cutter can score. Offense must complete two passes BEFORE the cutter gets a touch. (This puts emphasis on second cutters!) The score must come from the screening action, not one-on-one play Competiive Ideas: On a 12-player roster, divide your team into four three-player groups. Set 8:00 (or a time of your choosing) on the clock. If your cutter scores with screening action, that team gets a point and stays on offense. A defender comes from the next team to guard the groups cutter. If that defender can force a stop and get the rebound, his/her team rotates to offense and now has opportunity to score points. Track each team's points. Variations: Start the ball on the wing instead of the top of the circle. Use shallow cuts to start the drill. Allow the offense to pass it to a coach at any time in the drill. can introduce staggers, baseline double, or dual screens to the drill. Side note: Have an assitant coach the defender! The defender will literally encounter dozens of defensive stances, close outs, denials and scenarios in each possession. See More

Basketball Play - Cincinnati Stack SLOB

Cincinnati Stack SLOB

David Taylor 03/24/2015

Cincinatti ran this play after Purdue turned over the ball late in the second half. It is important that the second cutter curls around the screen shoulder to shoulder. Cincinatti successfully ran this and scored an AND1 off 2's cut - cutting Purdue's lead to 3 with 41.5 seconds remaining. See More

Basketball Play - Cincinnati Elevator to Stagger Play

Cincinnati Elevator to Stagger Play

David Taylor 03/24/2015

Cincinnati ran this play in the second round of the NCAA tournament against Purdue. It should be emphasized how open 1 will get off of 5's back screen, if 1 cuts hard and 5 looks for him - if players do a poor job setting up this action, it will make it that much harder to effectively get open off the elevator screen (defender will top-lock elevator cut). It is vitally important that after 4 helps set stagger screen with 5, that he seals aggressively... If 4 does a good job sealing, he will at the very least get a high-low catch from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Albany Horns Backdoor

Albany Horns Backdoor

Brandon Huntley 03/24/2015

Coming out of halftime to start the 2nd half, the Albany Great Danes were down 9 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. Coach Will Brown called a Horns Backdoor set to start the half that would give one of their top scorers, Peter Hooley (#12) an easy scoring opportunity. Earlier in the 1st half, Albany ran numerous plays from the horns set, which you can tell by how the defender was expecting Hooley to come off the dribble handoff. Making a quick in game adjustment, Hooley sets the defender up for a backdoor and finishes the play. See More

Basketball Play - Albany Floppy Triple

Albany Floppy Triple

Brandon Huntley 03/24/2015

After the 16-minute media timeout in the 2nd half, Albany was down 8, while coming up empty on the previous three possessions. They forced Oklahoma into a tough outside shot and after getting the defensive rebound; Coach Brown called a Floppy Triple set. As you can tell in the video, the play was designed to get Peter Hooley (#12) a shot. The defense was prepared to take away Hooley in the play, which left Ray Sanders (#1) wide-open coming off the screen. This is a great play to run in an After Time Out situation. You can give your two best shooters looks coming off screens. See More

Basketball Play - FT Crossing

FT Crossing

FastModel Sports 03/24/2015

As many high school teams are deep into their state tournaments and as college teams prepare for their conference tournaments (and for some lucky teams the NCAA tournament as well), it is vital to be practicing “time and score” situations daily. If you and your team have been working on these scenarios throughout the year, you are in great position to execute them properly down the stretch. Here we have the situation where we must miss a FT and get an offensive rebound. This is something that must be practiced and can't just be drawn up in a huddle. See More
