Basketball Play - Beating a Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse

Beating a Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse

Shannon Clancy 04/18/2018

Concept - Beating A Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse There are many ways to break full court pressure - and they can change based on the type of pressure you're facing. Whatever you decide, remember these three words - side, middle, reverse. When playing tough full court zone pressure teams it can sometimes feel as if there's 12 defenders on the court - but of course there are only 5, and 2 of them are guarding one player. This leaves 3 players to guard your remaining 4, and at least one of them will likely start long, protecting the rim. Jr. Wizards Coaches Manual See More

Basketball Play - 4 Out 1 In Motion Offense

4 Out 1 In Motion Offense

Shannon Clancy 04/18/2018

This 4 out, 1 in motion style offense is not a patterned or continuity style offense, but rather a set of rules designed to give players the ability to read and react to the defense. This offense is easy to learn yet hard to perfect. It's also very hard to scout and prepare for once fully implemented, due to its read and react nature. It is best used by teams that are guard heavy, but can be adjusted to fit any type of lineup. Jr. Wizards Coaches Manual See More

Basketball Play - 21 Pistol Box Entry

21 Pistol Box Entry

Dave Nedbalek 07/05/2017

This is a disguised entry into 21. Defense is about positioning so getting any defense out of the position they are familar guarding an action out of automatically begins putting them to the test. This is only the entry into the 21 offense. If you have not seen that yet I recommend checking out my diagram of it here You can also run this action from the 1-4 High 21 Entry to combine two wrinkles to throw at the defense. See More

Basketball Play - Suns Pitch Flex

Suns Pitch Flex

Adam Spinella 08/29/2016

Flex is a very common action in all levels, high school to NBA. At the highest levels, if a team wants optimal posting position off a flex screen, they must disguise that a flex screen is coming by running false movement early in the set. Jeff Hornacek did this with the Suns, mixing it in with his pitch offense. See More

Basketball Play - 3 on 3 Get Back

3 on 3 Get Back

FastModel Sports 06/17/2016

"This drill comes from Coach Jim Boone, the Head Coach at Delta State and is called the 3 on 3 Get Back Drill. We have some teams in our conference that do a fantastic job of pushing the ball up the floor, even after made baskets. This drill teaches our guys to do this- we call it “fast break makes”. It also teaches the importance of transition defense and stopping the basketball. We keep score and go live for a set amount of time with a consequence for the team that doesn’t win." Basketball Play - Oklahoma Sooners Double Stagger

Oklahoma Sooners Double Stagger

Dana Beszczynski 02/29/2016

Head Coach Lon Kruger has a gem in Buddy Hield this year and his line-up is also fortunate enough to have good Senior leadership. The Sooners are 2nd in the nation in 3 pt shooting % at .426 (10.5 makes per game behind the arc) Isaiah Cousins a versatile guard who can both shoot and handle the ball, Hield (2nd in the nation in scoring at 25.4 ppg), and Ryan Spangler one of the hardest working big men in the nation (top 50 in rebounding at 9.5 rpg.) This double stagger action was run against Kansas to get Hield a look. Hield reads the defense perfectly, cuts up the gut and as the help defender runs at him, he makes the perfect extra pass to Woodard in the corner for the open 3 pt shot. The Sooners have been fun to watch this season and as we head into the BIG 12 & NCAA Tournament, it will be interesting to see how far they can go. See More

Basketball Play - Charlotte Hornets ATO Play for Stretch Big

Charlotte Hornets ATO Play for Stretch Big

Jacob Collins 10/05/2015

It's never too early. I know I am itching to get back into the gym and start working with my guys. Thanks to my autorenewal of League Pass, I've been able to catch some glimpses of a few NBA teams working young guys in and trying to get timing down. This is a play for a stretch big, that came after a timeout in the 2nd half of the Charlotte-Miami preseason game on Sunday. Another resource that coaches can use in the drudgery of waiting for practice to start is NBAtv. All week last week, NBAtv's crew were running their series Inside Training Camp and it was awesome. The interaction between players is fun to watch and there is no doubt that you can take a drill from each practice. See More

Basketball Play - Baseline (3-low)

Baseline (3-low)

Rory Hamilton 07/29/2015

We start by forming a triple stack on either block with our player being guarded M2M on top. To initiate the action, the point guard uses a freeze dribble to attack the top defender in the box and the players forming the stack set a double screen on the low box defender and the middle guard looks to pop out to shooting range. If the bottom of the zone shifts out quickly to defended the short corner/corner shot, the ball side post immediately screens away and brings weak side post across the hoop for a baseline bounce pass. If nothing develops on this action a quick pass to the point guard followed by a ball screen by the guarded player and the action can be run to the other side. If at anytime the bottom box defender anticipates the corner pass, the point guard can ball fake and immediately hit the post player slipping the screen on the block. You can also run this play with your player being guarded M2M as the baseline runner. See More
