Pacer Deny Action
06/14/2013A common screen the screener set ran by a lot of High School, College, and NBA teams was used by the Indiana Pacers against the Miami Heat. As you will see in most of Indiana's play sets they run a lot of stuff for their 3 man, #24 Paul George. Here they use George to set the back screen for the post before he runs off 5's screen for a wing catch. He has the option to shoot, drive, or dump it inside to the posting #55 Roy Hibbert. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 8 : MIami Heat Horns Down 25
06/08/2013Miami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 4: Miami Heat Post Sneak - Start Game
06/04/2013During Game 7 of last night's ECF between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, the Heat won the tip-off to start the game and ran this quick hitter to try and get Wade going early. Wade has been struggling throughout the Playoffs and there is no better way to ignite a player than by showing your confidence in them running the first play of the game for them. Unfortunately for Wade and the Heat, Roy Hibbert quickly rotated to prevent the easy lay-up. See More

Memphis Staggered Rip
06/02/2013Memphis ran this play at the 5:21 mark of their game three loss to the Spurs. This layup by Randolph put Memphis up by 11. The Spurs made two consecuctive defensive errors on this play. First, Randolph was doubled in the post leaving Gasol wide open at the free throw line. After Pondexter ball faked to the free throw line both Spurs guarding Randolph ran to the free throw line. Z-Bo was left unguarded on the block for the layup. Regardless of the Spurs defensive lapses, this is a good set involving screening to get the ball into the post. See More

The play worked so well because West's defender (Bosh) lost track of him cutting baseline and the screener's defender (Anderson) did not open up to help, allowing West to seal him under the basket. 05/31/2013Trying to head into halftime with much needed momentum in Game 5 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat, Pacers' head coach Frank Vogel drew up this action that worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, David West missed the point blank lay-up. What made this play so successful was that Chris Bosh (guarding West) fell asleep ball watching and didn't see West cut behind his head. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. NBA Play of the Day May 30: Memphis Grizzlies Horns DHO
05/30/2013Memphis ran this play at the 2:25 mark of the first quarter in their 93-104 OT loss in game three to the Spurs. After the reject of the ball screen, 1 dragged 5's defender out so 5 was wide open at the nail (midlle of the free throw line). Instead of giving Gasol the wide open free throw line jumper, Pondexters man rotated from the weakside corner to guard Gasol. Gasol reversed the ball to the corner for the wide open three point shot.
