Basketball Play - Dribble Drive Motion: 1v1 Dribble Attacks

Dribble Drive Motion: 1v1 Dribble Attacks

null null 07/04/2018

As part of #PlayerDevelopmentWeek I am putting together a series of drill progressions that we use in order to develop skills to fit our Dribble Drive Motion Offense. In this first installment we are looking at developing "Dribble Attacks." These are quick and simple dribble attacks that we emphasize in both the half court and transition settings. Mainly we are looking at attacking a defender who is isolated in the elbow or slot area. We would like our players to make a quick aggressive move and attack that defender to the rim. The three "Dribble Attacks" that we teach are 1) In & Out Dribble, 2) Hesitation, and 3) Crossover. The 1v1 Dribble Attacks Drill Below is a simple drill but one that will combine Dribble Attacks and Finishing at the Rim. The two versions represent two common tactics; sagging defenses and overly aggressive on-ball defenses. Basketball Play - 11 Man Fast Break Drill

11 Man Fast Break Drill

null null 06/24/2018

The 11 Man Fastbreak is one of our players' favorite drills. It is essentially a continous 3 on 2 transition drill that we use to emphasize pitch aheads and "Finding Advantages." This is generally a drill where I try not to blow the whistle much, but I will blow the whistle if we are straying from our transtion principles. I generally choose to emphasize 1) Running the Sideline Hard, 2) Hunting Pitch Ahead Passes, 3) Keeping Advantages Alive, and 4) Attacking the Rim. Basketball Play - Leicester Wolverines - Second Cutting

Leicester Wolverines - Second Cutting

null null 06/21/2018

We think of "Second Cutting" as what we do when the ball has been driven and stopped. Our "First Cut" is our spacing on the drive, and then our "Second Cut" is our reaction if that drive is stopped. These are not predetermined cuts but ones made based on the decisions our own defender makes. These are two ways we drill this scenario in a Short-Sided Game setting. See video below for drill demonstration. From the FMS Blog: Program Spotlight - Leicester Wolverines Skill Building for Dribble Drive Motion Offense Keys to Designing a DDM Practice Plan See More

Basketball Play - Iowa Hawkeyes - Zipper Motion Pin/Flare

Iowa Hawkeyes - Zipper Motion Pin/Flare

Dymetrius Ware 03/06/2018

Former Iowa coach Dr. Tom Davis would run this motion offense set with great success for the Hawkeyes. It incorporates various types of screens (zipper, pin down, flare) to ultimately free up multiple shooters for an open looks. 3 has option to hit whoever is open, or create for themselves in middle of the floor as defense will be spread out and focusing on screens. Basketball Play - Germany - Motion

Germany - Motion

Ryan Nguyen 09/09/2017

Motion offense from Germany at EuroBasket 2017. 1 dribbles at 5 for a pitch and 5 dribbles at 2 for a handoff. 3 sets a back screen for 5 then receives a down screen from 5. 3 (Staiger/Barthel) comes off the down screen looking for a shot. If 3 isn't open, offense flows into a flare screen and down screen on the left and right side of the floor respectively. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan "Wide Pin Flare"

Michigan "Wide Pin Flare"

Gibson Pyper 03/19/2017

A part of Michigan's motion offense, if the wide pindown is covered and the big opening is not open they default into this action. This is triggered by the point guard looking back to the wing where the pass came from and he dives backdoor. The corner fills and then looks to drive into the middle of the lane and the point guard cuts off the big setting a flare screen for a shot. 3 in the corner/opposite block must clear to the opposite side to prevent any help. Basketball Play - Runner/Scorer Actions

Runner/Scorer Actions

Andrew Lacey 03/18/2017

Today’s basketball offense breakdown comes from the 2 Out 3 In Motion Offense. Iowa State used the concepts once used by Steve Alford when he was at New Mexico. The 2 Out 3 In motion offense is very unique, which allows the post area to become open for isolation plays and opens up dribble penetration and backdoor cut plays. Iowa State made this key adjustment in the first half against Nevada when they struggled to get much out of their ball screen sets. See More
