Basketball Play - Stride Out Lay Ups Drill

Stride Out Lay Ups Drill

Matt Hackenberg 02/16/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on getting your players to take longer strides while playing basketball. I believe longer strides allow players to be faster and cover more ground. I think drills like this help unlock a player's athleticism. Check out Euro Stride Finishing Drill as a complement to this one. Basketball Play - Jump Stop Finishing Drill

Jump Stop Finishing Drill

Matt Hackenberg 01/21/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on finishing off of a jump stop. We preach to our players about being on balance and using jump stops, so we want to show them solutions for how to create space and shots off the two foot stop. Basketball Play - Delay Game: 4 Corners

Delay Game: 4 Corners

Matt Hackenberg 12/28/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a delay game strategy to control the clock, shorten the game, and make your opponent overextend. This strategy can be lethal when executed properly. It is dependent on not having a shot clock, but can be used with a shot clock, just without as deep of a threat. Video below. Basketball Play - Zone Lob: "Irish"

Zone Lob: "Irish"

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

This diagram and embedded video is a simple set play to screen the back side forward and distract the middle defender in order to lob behind a 2-3 or 3-2 zone. We usually try this once or twice any time we play against zone teams. It works fairly well to steal an easy bucket. The toughest part of executing the action is the timing and accuracy of the pass. Basketball Play - "21" High Ball Screen Attack

"21" High Ball Screen Attack

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a simple ball screen concept. We used this when we had two attacking guards we wanted to keep out front, allowing them to create by using a ball screen or rejecting into the gap. We wanted to keep shooters in the corners as much as possible. For as simple as the cocnept was, it was fairly effective against good competition. We started to add other options to make the offense less predictable with the zip and DHO options. Video clips below. Basketball Play - 5 Out Double Flare "Special"

5 Out Double Flare "Special"

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

We used a 5 Out pass and cut offense which set up this play perfectly. When the designated shooter got to the top of the key we double-flared the back side and dribbled at the flare screens. We used a numbering system for our personnel - the point guard was the 1, shooting guard was the 2, etc. So I would call "Special 2" to indicate we were running the flare screens for the shooting guard in our system. Basketball Play - High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

High Ball Screen Continuity Offense: "Flow"

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This is a breakdown of an offense we call "Flow." Flow is three guard, two forward offense that is a hybrid of a ball screen offense and dribble drive concepts. It has options to attack driving gaps and play pick and roll. I really think the roll and replace concept is hard to guard, and we often found the replacing big wide open at the top of the key. Obviously, playmaking guards are a centerpiece to this concept. Basketball Play - 1-3-1 Zone Offense: Low Back Screen Continuity - "Bear"

1-3-1 Zone Offense: Low Back Screen Continuity - "Bear"

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

This offense was implemented to help incorporate constant screening and cutting into a continuity offense. There are options to score on cuts, post ups, down screening and slips. We've found wrinkles and set plays from within the base offense that have been effective. Basketball Play - 5 Out Circle Motion ("Tennessee")

5 Out Circle Motion ("Tennessee")

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

The Circle Motion is an easy offense to implement and provides opportunities to score from screening and cutting. The simplicity is what I like about the offense the most. The diagrams break down a lot of the details of how to execute the offense, and the embedded video shows what the options look like at game speed. I wrote a 30 page detailed breakdown of this offense and it is available for purchase on my sellfy: https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/p/ten...
