Basketball Play - Indiana Pacers - Loop Chicago

Indiana Pacers - Loop Chicago

Lucas Shapiro 02/23/2016

The Pacers ran the common loop action on this set but did not give it to C.J Miles because he was being denied the ball. Instead they entered it into the post and ran Chicago action (off-ball screen into a dribble handoff). This created an open look for Miles even though his defender did not make contact with any of the offensive players. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day June 3: Indiana Pacers Zipper Power

NBA Play of the Day June 3: Indiana Pacers Zipper Power

Kyle Gilreath 06/03/2013

The Indiana Pacers ran this Sideline Out of Bounds play on Saturday during Game 6 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat. I drew up several zipper actions from the Pacers last week and this ending is great to get your big posted up on the block with limited help. If the defense decides to double on the catch or earlier, you have 2 coming off a a pin-down or 4 slipping to the rim as options. See More

Basketball Play - Slingshot Concept

Slingshot Concept

Jordan Petersen 05/01/2018

"Slingshot" is a ball screen concept to take advantage of switching defenses when a big gets matched up with a guard. After the switch, the ball handler retreats to create space between the defender then attack down hill. If the defender backs up, then the ball handler shoots the ball. If the defender steps up, then the ball handler attacks the basket. Commonly used by the Indiana Pacers with Victor Oladipo to take advantage of his downhill speed and outside shooting ability. Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - BLOB PG Rip

Cleveland Cavs - BLOB PG Rip

Matt Wheeler 04/18/2017

The Cleveland Cavs were up 5 with 30.9 seconds left and ran this play to help seal the win against the Indiana Pacers. This play was very difficult to guard because of all the offensive threats that were on the floor for the Cavs. The inital action forced the Pacers to defend the staggered screen so as not to give up an open 3 to a shooter (Kyle Korver). The secondary action used the Cavs two best players with 4 (Lebron James) setting a back screen for 1 (Kyrie Irving). x4 has a difficult choice to make. Helping on the backscreen might take away the layup but it would also get 4 an open shot. x4 stayed with his man and 1 got a wide open layup on the play. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - Post Rescreen

Cleveland Cavs - Post Rescreen

Matt Wheeler 04/15/2017

The Cleveland Cavs ran this as their first set play out of a timeout in their playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers. 2 cuts off fo the flex screen for the first option. 2 then turns to screen for 5. This action gives the Cavs two different look options. In this situation 3 passes to 5 for a layup. If that option is defended.2 should be open on the down screen from 4. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - PNR Pindown Lob

Cleveland Cavs - PNR Pindown Lob

Matt Wheeler 04/15/2017

The Cleveland Cavs ran this play late in the 1st quarter of their playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers. On the previous possession Cleveland ran the same action except 5 followed 4 for a stagger screen for 3. This time 5 rolled to the basket for the lob catching the defense off guard. x4 and x3 were focused on guarding the pindown action for a shooter (3). x2 can't provide help because he has to guard against the corner 3. When x5 had to help on the ball screen 5 cut to the rim and was wide open for the lob. See More
