Basketball Play - Milwaukee Bucks - Handoff Rip Lob

Milwaukee Bucks - Handoff Rip Lob

Matt Wheeler 04/23/2017

The Milwaukee Bucks opened game 4 against the Toronto Raptors with this play designed to get a lob dunk to 5 and help get the home crowd going to start the game. 1 follows the entry pass to 5 get the ball back on a handoff. 2 then sets the back screen on 5 putting the defense at a size disadvantage at the rim and forcing x2 to try to protect on the lob. Basketball Play - Screen the Screener

Screen the Screener

Mo Dakhil 04/18/2017

The Grizzlies ran a great ATO out of a sideline out bounds play with two options that led to a Marc Gasol three. The first option is a lob for the guard coming off a back screen and the second is the screener receiving a screen to get them open for a three. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - BLOB PG Rip

Cleveland Cavs - BLOB PG Rip

Matt Wheeler 04/18/2017

The Cleveland Cavs were up 5 with 30.9 seconds left and ran this play to help seal the win against the Indiana Pacers. This play was very difficult to guard because of all the offensive threats that were on the floor for the Cavs. The inital action forced the Pacers to defend the staggered screen so as not to give up an open 3 to a shooter (Kyle Korver). The secondary action used the Cavs two best players with 4 (Lebron James) setting a back screen for 1 (Kyrie Irving). x4 has a difficult choice to make. Helping on the backscreen might take away the layup but it would also get 4 an open shot. x4 stayed with his man and 1 got a wide open layup on the play. See More

Basketball Play - Brad Stevens - DHO Swing STS (ATO)

Brad Stevens - DHO Swing STS (ATO)

Doug Brotherton 04/17/2017

Brad Stevens ran this ATO set in the first half of Game 1, against the Chicago Bulls. It resulted in back-to-back baskets for the Celtics. The first basket was a lob. On the second basket, the Celtics ran the set all the way through. The key to the set is that the Celtics used their best shooter to set the back screen, which eliminated the Bulls' ability to help. More coaches should use their best shooters as a screener, when their team is in need of an easy basket. Great design by Coach Stevens! See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - DHO Reverse Lob

Boston Celtics - DHO Reverse Lob

Matt Wheeler 04/16/2017

The Boston Celtics ran this ATO in their playoff opener against the Chicago Bulls to get an easy basket at the rim. The dribble handoff and ball reversal actions are used to clear a side of the floor for the lob and get the defense to focus on stopping 1. In order to take the lob away x1 needs to drop and protect the rim, but he would run the risk of 1 getting open for a shot. The Celtics run a similiar action to this play where 1 is the primary option and will get the ball back on a handoff from 4. In this play x1 is focused on stopping 1 and doesn't provide help on the back screen. This gets 3 a wide open look on the lob. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - PNR Pindown Lob

Cleveland Cavs - PNR Pindown Lob

Matt Wheeler 04/15/2017

The Cleveland Cavs ran this play late in the 1st quarter of their playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers. On the previous possession Cleveland ran the same action except 5 followed 4 for a stagger screen for 3. This time 5 rolled to the basket for the lob catching the defense off guard. x4 and x3 were focused on guarding the pindown action for a shooter (3). x2 can't provide help because he has to guard against the corner 3. When x5 had to help on the ball screen 5 cut to the rim and was wide open for the lob. See More

Basketball Play - HoopGrind Basketball - "Elbow Chase"

HoopGrind Basketball - "Elbow Chase"

Doug Brotherton 04/07/2017

This box set incorporates our "ELBOW" action. The Elbow action starts in a box set, with guards splitting to the wings. Post lift up the lane line. What I like about this play is the versatility. It can be used to generate an open 3, a post iso, or a high/low look. It can also be used effectively against man-to-man or zone defense, by simply teaching 4 to set the cross screen on the middle of the zone. Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Hawk Bump

Cleveland Cavaliers - Hawk Bump

Ryan Nguyen 04/05/2017

This Hawk set is a wrinkle from the Cleveland Cavaliers "Hawk Stagger" action when X2 denies 2 cutting to the basket off of the back screen. Instead of 2 cutting off of the weakside stagger screen from 4 & 5, he sets a double ball-screen with 3 for 1. As 1 attacks off of the ball screen, 3 rolls to the short corner and 5 sets a down screen for 4 as X5 is zoning up to help on the penetration and roll. 1 has option driving it to the basket, passing to 3 on the roll, 2 "shaking" behind 3's roll or drive-and-kick to 4 (Kevin Love) exiting to the wing. Basketball Play - Gonzaga Box Low Post Iso

Gonzaga Box Low Post Iso

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

Gonzaga fought off a furious challenge last night in the Sweet 16 from West Virginia. The Zags had difficult at times getting into their sets due to the relentless ball pressure applied from the Mountaineers. Here is a Post Iso action run from a Box set where they look to free up Karnowski off a simple back screen action in the lane. Gonzaga does a good job moving without the ball and opening up the cutting lanes as evident by the last frame here with the ball in the Post. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona - Motion

Arizona - Motion

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

Sean Miller's Offensive sets are very creative, involve a lot of movement and do a good job changing sides of the floor. This Princeton type Motion Action invovles a lot of screening actions, incorporates two ball screens and forces the Defense to be aware of cutters and movements on the weak side. The opening action off the FT line elbow screen can yield a lob if the defender on the cutter gets hung up on the screen or is late trailing his man. Use also have the back screen Flex type cut for Trier which can get your 3 man a quick post-up or easy lay-up off the ball reversal step out from the 5 man. The play ends with either a SPNR or Step-up screen from the baseline. Well designed, easy to execute, but very hard to defend when utilizing a full shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - Butler - PNR Rip Lob

Butler - PNR Rip Lob

Matt Wheeler 03/19/2017

Butler opened the second half of their game against Middle Tennessee with this back screen lob play. 4 sets up the play by faking the screen for 3 then popping back out to get the ball from 1. 2 then sets the back screen for 5. This puts the defense at a disadvantage by forcing a smaller player to help on the lob pass to 5. See More
