Basketball Play - Rondo

Rondo

Brandon Mullis 07/14/2013

This is a quick hitter that we used to run several seasons ago. It was called "Rondo" for Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, who ran some similar actions. This set could be used as a quick-hitting set to flow into your normal offense, or it is also good action that could also be used at the end of quarter/half/shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - Miami DH Pin Down Reverse

Miami DH Pin Down Reverse

Kevin Bruinsma 07/13/2013

Miami entered a lot of their offense with a dribble handoff. Here after the DH #34 Ray Allen sets up his man and runs off a screen looking for his shot. If the shot isnt there he hands right back to 2 or in this case #3 Dwayne Wade. On the handoff #3 Dwayne Wade gets a ball screen from #1 Chris Bosh with the entire side of the floor open. See More

Basketball Play - Rub Pop Dirk

Rub Pop Dirk

Adam Spinella 07/11/2013

This was a play run at one time by the Dallas Mavericks in their 2011 NBA Championship run. The plan was to get Dirk and Kidd in a ballscreen read situation where Dirk could isolate at one of two spots on the floor and have proper spacing around him. See More

Basketball Play - 2 low

2 low

John Leonzo 07/11/2013

Here is a quick hitter that can be run effectively against man to man so long as the offense reads the defense correctly. The effectiveness of this play lies in the screen the screener action that occurs between 2 and 3. 2 will always curl this screen looking to score, if 3's defender helps on 2, 1 should look to hit 3 in the short corner for a shot oppertunity. Basketball Play - Spurs Zipper Triple Flare

Spurs Zipper Triple Flare

Kevin Bruinsma 07/09/2013

In the Western Conference Finals the San Antonio Spurs ran the corner flare action a few times against the Memphis Grizzlies. I didn't see it much against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Here they utlized a zipper screen to get the 3 man the ball at the top of the key allowing #9 Tony Parker to run off 3 screens. After 2 set his screen he sprints to the wing that Parker started in. With all of the focus on Parker the ball goes back to the wing. The big comes to ball screen, which is rejected as #20 Manu Ginobili drives baseline. #9 Tony Parker drifts to the corner, and #21 Tim Duncan has two options based on his positioning and his defender, duck in and look for the drop down pass or set flare screen for Parker. Basketball Play - Grizzly

Grizzly

John Leonzo 06/21/2013

Here is a quick hitter that was run by Lionel Hollins and the Memphis Grizzlies this past NBA season. The wide pin down to dribble hand off action is very hard to guard and can either get you a good look at a basket or create a mismatch opportunity if the defense elects to switch. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day June 4: Miami Heat Post Sneak - Start Game

NBA Play of the Day June 4: Miami Heat Post Sneak - Start Game

Kyle Gilreath 06/04/2013

During Game 7 of last night's ECF between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, the Heat won the tip-off to start the game and ran this quick hitter to try and get Wade going early. Wade has been struggling throughout the Playoffs and there is no better way to ignite a player than by showing your confidence in them running the first play of the game for them. Unfortunately for Wade and the Heat, Roy Hibbert quickly rotated to prevent the easy lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies WCF Offensive Sets

Memphis Grizzlies WCF Offensive Sets

Kevin Bruinsma 05/30/2013

I figured with so many people doing one set and one drawing, I wanted to offer something different. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. I started with the Memphis Grizzlies. The play diagrams below are drawn for multiple plays with the play name titled directly on top of the court frame. These play diagrams are in order with the video you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hYblZmLbIM&feature=youtu.be This way you can view the video and look at the play diagrams while the video is running. I hope you enjoy looking at the Memphis Grizzlies WCF Playbook. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Guard Screen vs 2-3 Zone

Michigan Guard Screen vs 2-3 Zone

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2013

Another good 1/2 court set run against the 2-3 Zone by the Michigan Wolverines. This set utilizes the ball screen as the 3 looks to get in the paint and force rotation situations from the back defenders The Wolverines ran this set effectively and what makes this even more dangerous is the 3 pt shooting ability of Stauskas on the wing spotting up See More
