Basketball Play - Villanova Wildcats - Stagger Split BLOB

Villanova Wildcats - Stagger Split BLOB

Tony Miller 03/29/2018

The Villanova Philosophy: When 5 of your top 6 players shoot 39% or better from 3, you run as many stagger screens and pin down screens as possible to get those shooters open from deep. And if the defender shows on the second screen in the stagger, the 5 man slips to the bucket for an easy bucket. Final Four Breakdown: Villanova Wildcats - XsOs Behind the Dominance See More

Basketball Play - Stagger Split Action

Stagger Split Action

Matt Wheeler 10/23/2017

In the stagger split action, the player positions do not matter as much as putting the player with the right skills set in those positions. 1 must be a shooter or playmaker. He will most likely get the ball to create a shot for himself or others. 2 needs to be a good passer. He has to make the read and deliver the ball to the correct person. 3 has to be an offensive threat, which forces the defense to have to provide help as he cuts to the basket. 4 is where you want your best screener to be. He has to get 1 open on the down screen. 5 needs to be put in a position where he creates good spacing for your team. FMS Blog: Stagger Split Action Breakdown See More

Utah Jazz - PNP Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 10/23/2017

The Utah Jazz ran this play to get Gordon Hayward the ball off a down screen where he can create a shot for himself or his teammates. The play starts with a pick and pop with 1 and 4. This gives the Jazz good spacing and gets the ball in a position where 4 can make the pass off of the stagger split action. 5 & 2 set a stagger screen for 3 on the weak side. 3 splits the screen by curling around 2 and cutting to the basket. 2 then cuts off the screen from 5 to receive the pass from 4. South Korea (W) - UCLA Punch Split

Ryan Nguyen 07/28/2017

UCLA Offense from South Korea that they've been running at FIBA Asia Cup Women 2017. This is a wrinkle out of their UCLA offense. Rather than 1 cutting to the basket looking to receive a pass, 1 screens for 4 underneath the basket. 4 cuts into a post-up. 3 and 5 then play split game. 3 comes off the flare screen from 5 looking for a shot or drive to the middle. 5 slips to the basket. Stack Split

Evan Orzolek 07/24/2017

BLOB run by Iberostar in the Liga ACB. Hard action to guard with multiple screens occuring in simulataneous actions. 2 should usually always be open in the corner at the end and if x5 hedges on the flare screen to the opposite corner, have the 5 slip to the basket for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Double Drag Post Stagger Split

Golden State Warriors - Double Drag Post Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 06/08/2017

The Golden State Warriors used this play early in Game 3 of the NBA Finals to get a look for Klay Thompson (1) off of a post entry action. It's a great play to get the defense to guard multiple actions and get the ball back in your point guard's hands for a shot. The double drag at the beginning of the play was a decoy action to get the ball into the post. After the post entry 1 & 5 set a staggered split screen for 2, who cut to the basket off of 1. 1 was getting overplayed on the screen from 5 and rejected the screen to go backdoor for a layup. Golden State Warriors - Loop Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 06/05/2017

The Golden State Warriors ran this play to start the 4th quarter in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. It is a variation of the "Loop" play that they run, which Steve Kerr brought over from his time with the San Antonio Spurs. Normally 3 would curl around 5 to receive the pass up top from 1. In this play 3 curls around 5 to the FT line and 1 passes to 5 in the post. 3 & 1 then set a staggered screen for 2. 2 curls around 3's screen and cuts to the basket to receive the pass from 5. Cleveland Cavs - Post Hammer Split

Matt Wheeler 06/05/2017

The Cleveland Cavs ran this play in the 3rd quarter of Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Though they weren't successful in the execution, this play provides a few opportunities for open shots. After 4 receives the ball in the post, 2 sets a hammer screen for 3 cutting to the corner for the first option. If 4 sees this option open he can drive baseline to make the pass to 3. The secondary option is 5 setting the split screen for 1. In this play, the warriors switched the screen and 5 cut to the basket for a layup. See More
