SLOB set ran by the U20 Serbian team in the Eurobasket Championships in 2015. Timing of the down screen set by 4 should be practiced for timing purposes. 4 should set down screen for 2 once 1 starts the cut up to 5 to receive the stationary DHO in the slot. The false action in this set creates a solid opportunity out of the spread pick and roll. The ball coverage of the ball screen (x2) will be weak and late due to the down screen set by 4 and also with the DHO by 1. As a result, this will put extra pressure on the defending big involved on the ball screen (x5) and should create an advantage out of the spread pick and roll. See More

The Boston Celtics ran this play with the score tied and 36.3 seconds left in game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics wanted to get a quick score within 5 or 6 seconds so they would end up with the last possession of the game. As 2 gets the inbounds pass, 3 & 4 cut to the corners for spacing. 1 sets a brush screen for 2, allowing 2 to drive hard right looking for a layup or a kickout to a shooter. See More

"Iverson Down Flop" is a lob set, which is dependent on the ability of the passer to read the down screen. We use the term "FLOP," to replace FAKE. The play has an Iverson cut, followed by a "FLOP" or "FAKE" down screen. If X5 stays in the lane, the 2 should curl the down screen. This will result in a 2-on-1 at the rim. See More

"Box Special" is a lob set, which we ran regularly at Mid Michigan Community College. If the lob is not available, the back screener out cuts. There is the potential for a shot, or a high/low pass. "Banger" is a lob play, which is designed specifically for a zone defense. The key is for the 5 to sell the flash to the middle, to lift X5 from the middle of the zone. The ball reversals must also be "on time" and "on target." See More

The San Antonio Spurs used this SLOB play with only 4.5 seconds left on the shot clock to get an easy layup. The Spurs used a common play with the elevator screen as a decoy adding a back screen to it. Kawhi Leonard (4) did a good job of keeping x4 on his top side as he set the elevator screen with 5. The Chicago Bulls ran this pick and roll play to take advantage of the Boston Celtics strategy of switching guard to guard ball screens. When 3 sets the ball screen he makes sure to get underneath x1 and pin his defender opening himself up for the lob. 1 quickly passes to 5 to improve the passing angle and 5 makes the lob pass to 3. As 1 gets the dribble handoff from 5, 4 runs off of a double screen as a decoy clearing the defense to set up the lob. 2 sets a back screen for 5 putting the defense in a position where x2 has to help guard 5. 1 makes a lob pass to 5 at the rim.
