About This Play/Drill

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a break down drill for transition offense. This drill focuses on the habits of a 4 Out break, with a rim runner and point guard-led sideline break. This wasn't the primary transition offense drill we used when we ran this fast break system, but we mixed it in every once and a while.

  • Basketball Play - Rim Runs Transition Drill

The coach throws the ball off the rim/backboard, post tracks the ball and grabs it at its highest point. Post then pivots and outlets up the court or to outlet box.

Post sprints the rim and will receive a pass from the guard on the move for a finish. The guard receives the outlet from the post, uses specified dribble moves between the cones, and delivers a two handed pass on the move to the sprinting post. A coach then passes to the guard for a jump shot.
