Basketball Play - Swing Post

Swing Post

Randy Brown 05/11/2013

On first ball reversal from 1, 4, to 3, players shift into different positions on the floor. On ball reversal from 3 to 1, 4 and 2 exchange on right side as 3 uses flex screen to post up in lane. 4 to 3 pass creates one on one scoring opportunity for 3. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Vegas

Vegas

Randy Brown 05/05/2013

This can be run as a play to end the half, game, or to get an open three anytime. 1 makes UCLA cut to the basket. He stops inside the block and cuts up the middle of the floor to catch and shoot a three. 3 and 5 set double screens and "close the door" and free him for a shot. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - NBA Best Play of the Night May 8: Chicago Bulls - UCLA Power

NBA Best Play of the Night May 8: Chicago Bulls - UCLA Power

Kyle Gilreath 05/08/2013

The Chicago Bulls ran this simple post-up play to get Carlos Boozer two points on the block in Game 1 versus the Miami Heat. This is a play that the Bulls run almost religiously every night and have several different ways to get into it. Here another way they ran this play a few weeks ago that ended in a pick & roll. Because Boozer is such a force inside due to his size and strength this is a very difficult action to guard. If X1 switches with X5 its more than likely an immediate score and if X1 holds until X5 recovers 1 will be open for a shot popping out. See More

Basketball Play - Stack

Stack

Kyle Gilreath 12/05/2013

Last night in an overtime thriller, without any timeouts and trailing by 2 with just a few seconds left, Tom Thibodeau called out this Stack play for Luol Deng. Deng did an excellent job stepping back to set up his man and leveraging position to beat his man back to the ball for a catch & shoot lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Stagger String Floppy

Stagger String Floppy

John Leonzo 03/28/2014

Here is a set play that Dave Rose run at BYU so that he can get shots for his best player, Tyler Haws. I like this play because it give you multiple looks to put the ball into the hands of your best players and also because you have action going to and from the basket. See More

Basketball Play - Pistol

Pistol

Justin Scanson 12/23/2014

This is a great set to run out of transition or dribble drive. 1 can pass the ball up to the wing or dribble handoff to 2. 4 trails directly in to set an on ball. This is hard to guard for x2 who is managing a dribble handoff, traffic from 1 and x1 and then an on ball screen from 4. See More

Basketball Play - Davidson - Stagger

Davidson - Stagger

Adam Spinella 09/07/2013

Bob McKillop and the Davidson Men's Basketball Team run this as one option in their 4-out motion offense as a quick option out of transition. This play has the featured action of a downscreen for the big man, whom McKillop has featured frequently as a good shooter over the past few seasons. If there is a stretch shooting big man on your team, this is a nice set to get him coming off a downscreen. See More

Basketball Play - Flash Gap

Flash Gap

Dana Beszczynski 09/03/2013

The Michigan Wolverines used this set against the Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA Championship game. The set incorporates a lot of cuts and rub screens to free players for possible shots. What makes this so efffective is the "reads" the Wolverines make in order to get the shots they want against the match-up zone of the Cardinals. See More

Basketball Play - Around the World Layups

Around the World Layups

Fabian McKenzie 04/15/2013

We run this drill for 8 minutes All 1's have basketballs 2's stay at their passing spots 1's will continuously pass, sprint and make layups for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes we switch quickly and 2's take balls while 1's fill passing spots We go 2 minutes on right side and 2 minutes on left side In this variation we have more people with basketballs and we eliminate the middle pass. The players must throw a longer pass. We will go for 8 minutes but we will change the 2's throughout the drill instead of stopping the drill and changing everyone at the same time We go 4 minutes on right side and 4 minutes on left side See More

Basketball Play - Power Gap

Power Gap

Kyle Gilreath 02/05/2014

Last night the Florida Gators ran this zone offense play which lead to Freshman Chris Walker’s first points in a Gator uniform. If you watch Florida enough, you know that Billy Donovan frequently runs pick & rolls versus a zone to get two defenders guarding one and put the defense in compromising situations. This overloaded action does just that. What makes this play especially hard to guard is Florida had two point guards on the Florida making them extra dangerous on the dribble. As Kasey Hill came off the pick, not only did he have the options shown below, but he also had a throwback option to their lethal 3-point threat Michael Frazier II. Basketball Play - Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Coach Czes 10/01/2012

We run this for 10 minutes with half of the team on each end of the court, starting on the right side. We do 1:30 shot fake and drive, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, and 2:00 catch and shoot. Then we switch ENDS (they are now all on the left side of court) and work back down. 2:00 catch and shoot, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, 1:30 shot fake and drive. We stress ball fakes before the pass, jump stop finishes, great closeouts, shot fakes, and covering ground with our dribble. We choose 2 different spots to start from each day to change the spots we shoot from and the passing and driving angles, but the drill stays the same. See More

Basketball Play - Drift

Drift

John Leonzo 05/30/2013

Here is a quick hitter against the zone that St. Louis ran this past season. This is an effective set because of the stress it places on the strong side defender on the block whether or not to stay home or to guard the corner to prevent a 3. If the point guard reads the defender properly, this set should lead to an uncontested lay-up or three point shot. See More

Basketball Play - IOWA STATE 2-3 ZONE BLOB

IOWA STATE 2-3 ZONE BLOB

Jens Hakanowitz 01/25/2015

The Cyclones run this BLOB play vs 2-3 zone defenses. A typical overload play to get the ball inside. As you can see in frame 2, X5 is forced to step up to the high post to guard the ball. X4 is left on his own guarding two players (5 & 2) at the same time. One of them will be open to recieve a pass. See More
