Basketball Play - BONUS NBA Play of the Day May 9: Miami Heat Power

BONUS NBA Play of the Day May 9: Miami Heat Power

Kyle Gilreath 05/09/2013

Last night in an impressive win over the Chicago Bulls in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, the Miami Heat ran this play to get Lebron james a post up action. What made this play so effective is Ray Allen set the initial back screen on Lebron. Having the best shooter in NBA history set a screen really puts the defense in a bind because if you over-help the defense ends up late on the pin-down and more than likely give up an open 3-pointer. Basketball Play - Boise State-False Motion

Boise State-False Motion

Kyle Brown 03/13/2013

A great way to run some time off the clock and limit possesions is to run "false motion" boise state runs some of the best that I have seen. They were able to almost beat UNLV at UNLV while running this down the stretch into 1 of their sets. The most important teaching points for this is to cut to score, short easy passes, and stay high and wide. See More

Basketball Play - QB Tee Drills

QB Tee Drills

Michael Bowden 11/01/2012

Recently our staff was told about a product called QB Tee by an NBA Assistant Coach who is nationally known for being one of the best in the business as far as Player Development. There are countless drills that can be used with the QB Tee and I have just included a few in the Fast Draw diagrams and video. There can be full court ball handling drills to using it for end of game situations where your players need to have that internal clock in their mind to get a shot off in time. There is a standard list of times for each drill, but from the limited experience that we have had... It is good to start with the clock high, then slowly lower it and challenge your players. *One thing to remember when using this product is that there is a difference between having great footwork and shooting efficiently - and rushing your shot to get it off in time. Quality Reps! See More

Basketball Play - 1 Baseline

1 Baseline

Kyle Gilreath 08/15/2013

The Louisville Cardinals ran this play in the 2nd half of the 2013 National Championship game versus Michigan. If you watch Rick Pitino and Billy Donovan enough you know they love to run baseline staggers. This is a great quick hitter that got point guard Peyton Siva some easy looks from mid-range. To see EVERY play Louisville ran in the 2012 and 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBookChampionship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - Quick 1

Quick 1

Kyle Gilreath 04/09/2014

Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall spoke on Friday at the Men's Final 4 NABC Convention. While he spent some time discussing his philosophy and reasons for success, he talked mostly about his Quick series and how they instructed play calls. Every dead ball or timeout, he could give his players a "1st Play" and "2nd Play" to run in the upcoming segments. The play below is Quick 1, you may recognize it as they ran it versus Kentucky a few times in the NCAA Tournament. See More

Basketball Play - Trickle (1-4 High)

Trickle (1-4 High)

Adam Spinella 08/01/2013

Too often, 1-4 High offenses neglect post players because they're designed to accentuate the perimeter scorers - getting baskets for your post men is just as important, if not more important, when your normal motion sets don't accentuate it. Trickle is a play designed to get one of the post players a quick opportunity for a layup or post move. See More
