About This Play/Drill

Great high intensity defensive drill from Head Coach Mike Donnelly (Southern CT State University) that works on closing out multiple offensive drives.

  • Basketball Play - Step Up Drill

Drill Specifics: Quick 2 minute drill. Alternate sides.

 

Defensive player starts in lane doing quick feet/machine guns

 

Offensive player on the short corner dribble to the rim.

Defensive player closeouts as quick as possible meeting them outside of the lane.

 

Once the offensive player is contained the defensive player sprints to the key area and meets dribble penetrator as high as possible.

 

If defender does not do adequate job, they repeat the drill. If they do a satisfactory job, rotate to basline offensive line.

Rotation is defense to baseline, baseline to middle, middle to defensive line.
