Basketball Play - 3v3 Cut Throat Rebounding

3v3 Cut Throat Rebounding

Michael Lynch 04/11/2019

This is a 3v3 Rebounding drill that can be used for both sides of the basketball. Split your team into groups of three or four. The rotation for the drill is to enter on defense, then move to offense, and finally (if unsuccessful) out of the drill. If your team secures an offensive rebound they get to stay on offense and continue to earn points. If your team gives up an offensive rebound then your team exits the drill and a new team comes on. The Scoring System: 1 Point for a Defensive Rebound, 3 Points for an Offensive Rebound, and 2 or 3 points if you can score it off the Offensive Rebound. Each new possession must start with one of the two scenarios depicted below. Coaches then set the number or time they want to play until. The team with the highest score wins, the other teams get conditioning. Blog Posts: Crash the Glass: Making a Case for Offensive Rebounding Developing a Rebounding System See More

Basketball Play - Auburn Tigers - Cross Swing

Auburn Tigers - Cross Swing

Michael Lynch 03/30/2019

Auburn uses its athleticism to spread teams out and attack double gaps off the dribble. Here they use the DHO and Swing Pass to get the point guard the basketball in space. The wing ball screen and subsequent spacing off the ball create a nice gap for the point guard to attack. See video below. #FastModelMadness See More

Here is a way to incorporate a dribble drive attack into your zone offense. Using a wing dribble entry, we shift the defense to the ball side, then set a backside ball screen to create a 2/1 on the backside. Basketball Play - VCU - Tranisiton Swing Blur

VCU - Tranisiton Swing Blur

Michael Lynch 09/26/2018

The blur screen is an effective way to create a double gap in the defense. The pass and cut movement can create a temporary window for the basketball to attack into the heart of the defense. During the Shaka Smart years at Virginia Commenwealth, he used the blur screen as a secondary transition action. Once the ball is swung from slot to slot, the trailer then passes to the wing followed by a cut to ball side corner. This cutting action now opens a temporary double gap for the basketball to attack the elbow. See video below! Further studying: Creating with Blur Screens See More

Basketball Play - 4v4 Neutral Restrictions

4v4 Neutral Restrictions

Michael Lynch 08/31/2018

Using four out perimeter spacing we try to recreate game like situations in the short sided game (SSG) format. Here we have our most common actions within our Dribble Drive Motion system. Starting the SSG in a neutral scenario, it is up to the offense to use a pre-determined action to create A) a Double Gap and B) Drive the Basketball into it. Coaches can pre-determine the action or simply allow players to create freely. See videos below for game examples of these actions! Basketball Play - Boston College 4v4 Transition Drill

Boston College 4v4 Transition Drill

Michael Lynch 08/13/2018

The progression of drills is really effective in this Boston College "Fast Break Concepts" video created by Coach Chris Oliver of @BballImmersion. The 4v4 Transition Drill that begins at about the 7:00 mark was one that I thought was particularly useful. The Offense starts with a slight 4 v 2 advantage and seeks to make a pitch ahead pass for a score. Whether the offense misses or makes, the defense will then take the ball back up the court 4v4.
