Basketball Play - Slingshot Concept

Slingshot Concept

Jordan Petersen 05/01/2018

"Slingshot" is a ball screen concept to take advantage of switching defenses when a big gets matched up with a guard. After the switch, the ball handler retreats to create space between the defender then attack down hill. If the defender backs up, then the ball handler shoots the ball. If the defender steps up, then the ball handler attacks the basket. Commonly used by the Indiana Pacers with Victor Oladipo to take advantage of his downhill speed and outside shooting ability. Basketball Play - Washington Wizards - Horns Reverse DHO

Washington Wizards - Horns Reverse DHO

Cooper Smither 04/19/2018

The Washington Wizards run much of their halfcourt offense out of Horns sets. Scott Brooks uses this action to free up the Wizards guards to shoot off the dribble driving towards the middle of the floor. The non-shooting big will never set the ball screen when this action is being used, and will dive to the rim while the stretch 4 pops for the DHO. See More

Basketball Play - NC State - Iverson Stagger PNR

NC State - Iverson Stagger PNR

Matt Wheeler 01/16/2018

NC State used this ATO play to allow 3 to create off the dribble, put 4 in the position to get the ball at the rim, and allow their shooting 5 man to stretch the floor from the 3 point line. The Wolfpack started the play with 3 making an Iverson cut off of 4 and 5 to receive the pass from 1 on the wing. 1 cut to the corner to provide spacing as 3 dribbled off of the stagger ball screen from 5 and 4. As 3 turned the corner on the second ball screen x4 had to provide help. 4 then rolled to the rim forcing x5 to provide help on him. This allowed 5 to get an open look at a three point shot off of the pass from 3. Blog Post: 5 NCAA Teams that are Exceeding Expectations See More

Basketball Play - West Virginia Princeton Action

West Virginia Princeton Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

West Virginia used this Princeton type action last night against Gonzaga in their Sweet 16 match-up. Carter runs off the FT line screen into a double stagger looking to catch & shoot off the pass from the TOK. If there's no shot, he has the option to throw inside and the 5 man's down screen or exchange with 3 can also lead to a Hi / Lo off the wing pass to the FT Line area. The play closes with a corner ball screen action when the post has no attack option to the basket and the PG makes the read shooting behind the screen. See More

UCLA Floppy Canada

Adam Spinella 03/21/2017

For all the shooters UCLA has, their big men are underappreciated for how good they are in the mid-range. This action allows them to take advantage of their mid-range shooting prowess by driving a guard on the baseline, then hitting a big man for the pick-and-pop. See More

Basketball Play - St. Mary's - Gaels Horns Set

St. Mary's - Gaels Horns Set

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

The St. Mary's Gaels do a very good job running their half court sets, with good patience, spacing, and ball movement, they make the defense really pay close attention especially off the ball. This set out of a Horns, is very popular at the European level right now and the first action gives you a chance for a quick hitter off the back door cut. St. Mary's has Jock Landale who can pop or roll out of the SPNR action which makes him a double threat and can open up the driving lanes for the guards too get in the paint and cause rotations, which then leads to kick-outs for their proficient shooting from behind the arc.
