Basketball Play - Maccabi Tel Aviv FIST DOWN

Maccabi Tel Aviv FIST DOWN

Marc Skelton 08/15/2014

This Cleveland Cavaliers' coach David Blatt set is poetry. Everybody gets involved. The ball touches both sides of the floor- simutaneously breaking down the defense. What is great about this play is the backdoor cut is always open. Also, this is a fantastic offense to practice in the preseason. It will help your team read the defense a lot better and look for different ways to score. See More

Basketball Play - Horns 1-4 Screen (2 plays)

Horns 1-4 Screen (2 plays)

Greg White 05/27/2014

This is a different take on the ball screen. In this set the PG is the one setting the screen. Most of us practice with the PG getting screened for, thus the PG defender getting screened. Here the defender will likely hedge late, if at all, allowing 4 to turn the corner for a 2-1 situation at the rim. See More

Basketball Play - 3 Shots at 3 Spots

3 Shots at 3 Spots

Kyle Gilreath 12/30/2013

This past week while in Louisville for the King of the Bluegrass we were fortunate to watch NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Bellarmine University practice before taking off a few days for Christmas. Their practice was very impressive. The amount of energy and communication throughout the entire practice is exactly what our team needed to witness. This shooting drill is one they opened up practice with and allowed to get up a ton of shots in a short amount of period. The drill incorporates the 3 main spots on the floor (top of key and each corner) and 3 different shots at each spot. The line under the rim passes to the "spot" and then closes out to the ball, the player receives the pass and shot fakes before making a 1 or 2 dribble attack before passing to the 3rd spot. After passing (or shooting) follow your pass (shot) to the next line so each player performs each shot type at all 3 spots. I believe the goal of the drill was to score somewhere around 155 points; 3pt=3, 15 ft=2, lay-ups=1. Below are the shots that each player must perform at each spot: Corner 1 3 pointer Catch & rip 15 footer Catch & rip and finish at the rim/floater Top of the Key 3 pointer Catch & rip step-back 15 footer Catch & rip finish at the rim with a power lay-up / up and under Corner 2 3 pointer Catch & rip 15 footer Catch & rip and finish at the rim/floater Special thank you to Scott Davenport for allowing us to watch his practice. Basketball Play - 5 on 4 to 5 on 5 Transition

5 on 4 to 5 on 5 Transition

Kyle Gilreath 12/30/2013

This is another drill that I got from watching Bellarmine University practice last week. This is a great drill because it not only works on scramble situations having 4 players defend 5 in the half-court, but it also forces the offense (new defense) to sprint back after change of possession to prevent any easy lay-ups. After making your one transition stop after a made shot or the defense secures the rebound and repeat the drill the other way. Make sure you switch the offense and defensive teams who must scramble each time and rotate the players that are back. Do this drill for time or until a team reaches a pre-set point total. See More

Basketball Play - 4 on 4 actions (1 of 3)

4 on 4 actions (1 of 3)

null null 10/31/2013

When we see scout, we try to simulate the opposing teams actions in our defensive breakdown drills. This play has backscreens, and double stagger screens. These are difficult actions to defend when ran correctly. This gives coaches a time to break down these actions in practice. See More

Basketball Play - 3 on 3 Drill (1 of 4)

3 on 3 Drill (1 of 4)

This is a series of 3 on 3 actions we work on in practice. Coaches can decide how they want to defend the pass and screen away, pass and basket cut, pass cut and ball screen, and flare screens. We use this drill to prepare for teams that run these actions. See More

Basketball Play - Open Flare

Open Flare

Adam Spinella 07/24/2013

This is a great end of game play for a team to use in a Secondary Break. With about 7 or 8 seconds left on the clock, there is enough time to dribble up in the full court and engage in this action. Likely it has to be a practiced and a default set; if it were to be drawn in a huddle for a late-game play it is likely the defense would apply some sort of full-court pressure, meaning more time would be needed to execute the set. Basketball Play - Back Tip & Convert

Back Tip & Convert

Kevin Bruinsma 06/28/2013

This is a defensive drill that during my three years at Cleveland State we did a multiple times a week. It incorporates a lot of things and teaches/practices fundamentals while letting the guys get after it and be competetive. The back tip and convert drill allows you to learn how to back tip the ball properly and then transition immediatly into offense so you work on your 2 on 1 breaks. The key to this drill is the back tipper needs to sprint, and tip the ball up with his inside hand. Don't reach, just run the floor and tip the ball. A really great defense to offense drill while teaching a unique skill. See More

Basketball Play - 4 Shot Shooting Drill

4 Shot Shooting Drill

Greg White 05/27/2013

This is a great shooting drill to use in your individula shooting workouts or if space permits to use as part of your team practice. The key is shooting at game speed from game spots. The 4 shots are: lay-up, elbow jumper. flare jumper and transition jumper. The footwork and speed of the drill make this a great drill to add to your workout. See More

Basketball Play - Box-Name

Box-Name

Daniel Murphy 05/10/2013

Isolate your best shooter or driver with this screen the screener action. This is an interesting play because a lot of times the stagger comes on the weak side. This time the stagger is on the strong side, leaving a side of the floor isolated for a drive. This play can be run either to the right or the left. Make sure to practice the footwork of how you want your player to turn after the catch. See More
