Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Flare

5 Out DHO Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 5 Out alignment for a flare screen three. This becomes a pretty natural option in a secondary break setting. Simply initiating a DHO can be a trigger to execute the action without any play call. I like the action because it stretches the defense side to side. Zone Set: 5 Out Baseline Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 12/28/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. This set looks to create an advantag through screening. The wing entry and return pass just set up the action and create good timing. On the second wing pass, the baseline is screened to create the advantage. Video below. Basketball Play - Zone Set: 5 Out Screen In

Zone Set: 5 Out Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. Using the 5 Out alignment, all five offensive players are on the outside of the zone, giving great opportunity to screen in. This is a chance to create an easy 3pt opportunity. Browse more coaching content available on the Sellfy store: https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/ Follow me on Twitter - @CoachHackGO See More

Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Flare

5 Out DHO Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

This set uses some misdirections to set up a flare screen for our shooter. We want to get the defense watching the ball while we set up a dribble at flare. With the space created by the flare, we want to shoot or attack the close out. Video clip below. Basketball Play - 5 Out Double Flare "Special"

5 Out Double Flare "Special"

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

We used a 5 Out pass and cut offense which set up this play perfectly. When the designated shooter got to the top of the key we double-flared the back side and dribbled at the flare screens. We used a numbering system for our personnel - the point guard was the 1, shooting guard was the 2, etc. So I would call "Special 2" to indicate we were running the flare screens for the shooting guard in our system. Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Stagger

5 Out DHO Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

Out of our 5 Out alignment we used a set to to bring our 1 off of a double stagger screen. We reverse the ball to our 4, dribble hand off to the 2, and stagger screen on the back side. Developing slipping options out of the stagger would make this set even tougher to guard. Basketball Play - 5 Out "Backdoor" Dribble Drive

5 Out "Backdoor" Dribble Drive

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

We modify our dribble drive attack from 4 Out to 5 Out and use passing and cutting to create double gaps to drive. This action works best against pressure man defense and allows for tempo control by the offense. I love the offense from a developmental standpoint, teaching cutting, catching, passing and pivoting. Basketball Play - 5 Out Circle Motion ("Tennessee")

5 Out Circle Motion ("Tennessee")

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

The Circle Motion is an easy offense to implement and provides opportunities to score from screening and cutting. The simplicity is what I like about the offense the most. The diagrams break down a lot of the details of how to execute the offense, and the embedded video shows what the options look like at game speed. I wrote a 30 page detailed breakdown of this offense and it is available for purchase on my sellfy: https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/p/ten... Basketball Play - 5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary action out of a 5 Out fast break where we drag screen with our post player, and then roll them into the lane. While our post player is rolling, we are creating spacing to make a post entry. Against switching ball screen defenses, this creates an easy mismatch to exploit without having to stop and set up a formal offense. 5 Out Triple Stagger DHO

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 5 Out alignment to create a driving gap. We pin down screen into a DHO to create the gap, and space a shooter in the corner to keep the defense honest. Basketball Play - 5 Out: False Go Flare

5 Out: False Go Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a flare screen from a 5 Out transition. It doesn’t generate the most efficient shot, but as you can see from the video, it is EXTREMELY hard to stop. If you have point guard that can really shoot it, this action can create a ton a wide open looks. Basketball Play - 5 Out: Swing DHO Cross

5 Out: Swing DHO Cross

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video, we use a 5 Out alignment to get the ball inside. What I love about this set is the little on big screen that has the potential to put the defense in a tough spot if the screen is not handled well. There are endless possibilites out of the 5 Out alignment for creative play calling. Basketball Play - 5 Out Motion Offense

5 Out Motion Offense

Joel Hueser 09/26/2021

We take great pride in being the best motion team we can be. Learning to play this way is not easy. I often compare motion to reading. It takes time, but once you know how it's really worth it. In order for our offense to be successful—we must play harder, smarter, and more together than our opponent. Our motion offense helps to coordinate all of our individual skills into a cohesive team unit. No longer will skills be thought of as individual, but rather a contributing asset to our team play. Each player will maintain his own creativity and initiative because our offense is flexible enough to expose such assets. Most often we function with four perimeter players around one inside player. There are also times when we are most efficient with our five best players on the floor. This five out, positionless concept is also the set we encourage all of our youth programs to implement. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Too often a player is marked as a “big” early in his adolescence, only to stop growing by his freshman year. By this time his skill level is lagging behind the others and the transition back to the perimeter is insurmountable. If you are a youth coach, the greatest service you can do for your players is to teach them the fundamentals of the game and allow everybody to play inside and out. Our best teams have always been made up of highly skilled players who could do it all. See More
