Spain - Drag Slip
07/12/2016This play is a quick hitter and is used as a read against the defense. If the defense jumps out to hedge, the ball screener can slip to the rim for an easy layup. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play uses a shuffle/stagger action combined with a "spain" action (back screen on the ball screen roll". Spain does a great job of using multiple actions to make it difficult for the defense to keep up. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe point guard runs into the lane and can choose which side to run off of. In the video, 1 uses the single screen from 4 and 3 then cuts off of 5. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this play, an Orlando action "dribble handoff into ball screen" opens up the ballhandler and a cross screen is set for the post player inside. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawTo make this as effective as possible have your best shooter set the backscreen for the 5 man. This puts his defender in a very difficult position as he has a split second to decide if he is going to stop the ball, stop the roll, or just worry about preventing the best three-point shooter from getting an open shot. It is also effective because it brings three defenders to the main action in the middle of the floor, thus eliminating another help defender just standing there waiting to rotate. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSpain is the term for when a big sets a ballscreen and then cuts off a backscreen. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawNorth Carolina ran this early in the Elite 8 game against Notre Dame. The Tarheels run a handoff into a ball screen (Orlando Action) and then set a back screen for the post roll (Spain Action). Then they look inside for the post up. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNorth Carolina used this play against Indiana in the Sweet 16. It is a hard play to guard because of the various actions occurring. The initial back screen off of the ball screen roll (Spain action) can often open up a lob. If that isn't there, they look for a staggered shot on the left side. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a pick and roll set utilizing an back screen on the screeners defender. The 2015 Spainish national team successfully used this action in the championship game of the European championship against Lithuania. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOne of my favorite actions is "Spain" action, which is my term for a backscreen for the player who just set a ballscreen. Randy Wittman has run about 6 different variations out of this concept, but we will look at the main one I think alot of teams could employ. Nearly every college team runs "Slice Stagger" action into a high ballscreen, and to add this wrinkle would be very effective as it has been for the Wizards this year. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawEffective set vs. a defense that is going to hard hedge/flat hedge on the middle ballscreen. Spain ran this a ton in the Euro Basket this summer. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNice Spain (Backscreen after Ballscree) action from Cincinnati. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawFloppy play ran by Spain in their third place game vs. Croatia. Spain didn't get anything off the intial step up screen but after two passes got into drive and kick game. See More
