Basketball Play - BOB Double Pindown

BOB Double Pindown

Mo Dakhil 10/29/2016

Every team needs a Deep Corner Baseline Out of Bounds play. It is a situation that may come up seldomly but coaches should have a play they can go to in this situation. The Philadelphia 76ers' coach Brett Brown was prepared with this gem of a play on opening night agains the Oklahoma City Thunder. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics SLOB - Handoff Flare

Boston Celtics SLOB - Handoff Flare

Matt Wheeler 10/07/2016

The Boston Celtics summer league team used this play as their regular sideline out of bounds offense. Having the 5 pop up top to receive inbounds pass gives them a safe outlet since most 5's won't deny the ball that far up the floor. 1 comes off of multiple screens before looking for the inbounder (2) on the flare screen. If 2 isn't open. 1 uses the ball screen from 5 to create a scoring opportunity. See More

Basketball Play - Serbia - EOG SLOB Brush Screen

Serbia - EOG SLOB Brush Screen

Matt Wheeler 08/13/2016

Serbia ran this sideline out of bounds play down 94-91 against Team USA with 5.2 seconds left. There were three options for 3 point shooters with 2 cutting to the corner, 4 flaring to the weakside wing, and 1 coming back to the ball. 1 got open from the brush screen by 5 but Kevin Durant used his length on the ball to force a tough pass and broke the play up. Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Matt Wheeler 07/20/2016

Down 3 with 3.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League championship game, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out of bounds play to get Denzel Valentine a clean look at a 3. This play uses the skip pass action that Brad Stevens has used at both Butler and the Boston Celtics in end game situations. The Bulls ran their own variation of the play that started with a decoy cross screen for Valentine instead of the zipper screen that Stevens uses. This action caused the defense to relax, thinking Valentine was covered after defending the initial cross screen successfully. The rescreen for Valentine then freed him up for the game tying shot. Basketball Play - UNC M-M BLOB

UNC M-M BLOB

Kevin Bruinsma 05/20/2016

Down by six with 90 seconds left in the National Championship game North Carolina ran a quick hit baseline out of bounds play to get their best player #5 Paige an open 3-point look in the corner. He hit the shot and in a blink of an eye it went back to a one possession game. What I like about this Baseline out of bounds play is that it has a few options to get a lay-up that went un-noticed because Paige ended up hitting the 3 in the corner. The first action is the back screen set for the point guard to cut right to the rim for a quick entry pass and score. The second you don’t really see in the video due to the ball not reversing. If the pass would have been made to the top of the key to the 3 man who had set the back screen for 1, then 1 would have set a cross screen for the 5 man who had just set the screen to free up Paige for the shot. This put’s the 5’s defender in a really tough spot having to show or help on Paige then get screened going back the opposite way to an entire side cleared out for a post iso. See More

Basketball Play - Georgetown 5 Up Backdoor

Georgetown 5 Up Backdoor

Adam Spinella 04/12/2016

BLOB, or baseline out of bounds, plays are wonderful opportunities for a backdoor action because the defense gets sucked close to their man as they deny a pass towards the rim. Georgetown's John Thompson drew up this great set to get a backdoor out of a baseline inbound situation, sucking the entire defense away from the rim in order to do so. Thompson isolates the man guarding the inbounder as well, turning him into the help defender on a backdoor. As many coaches know and communicate to their players, the offensive player inbounding the ball is always dangerous once the ball gets inbounded. By paying too close attention to the inbounder, a defensive team will have no help at the rim on a backdoor cut. See More

Basketball Play - Kansas - Triple

Kansas - Triple

Lucas Shapiro 03/23/2016

Kansas scored on half of its baseline out of bounds sets in this game, which added up to eight points on eight opportunities. They ended up winning the game by 11 points. Having a baseline out of bounds series that is hard to guard not only makes the other coaching staff have to do work, it can be what separates your team in the postseason. UConn had scouted this play pretty well by running Devonte Graham off the line, but Graham did a great job nailing the one dribble pull-up jumper. See More
