Spurs Zipper Triple Flare
07/09/2013In the Western Conference Finals the San Antonio Spurs ran the corner flare action a few times against the Memphis Grizzlies. I didn't see it much against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Here they utlized a zipper screen to get the 3 man the ball at the top of the key allowing #9 Tony Parker to run off 3 screens. After 2 set his screen he sprints to the wing that Parker started in. With all of the focus on Parker the ball goes back to the wing. The big comes to ball screen, which is rejected as #20 Manu Ginobili drives baseline. #9 Tony Parker drifts to the corner, and #21 Tim Duncan has two options based on his positioning and his defender, duck in and look for the drop down pass or set flare screen for Parker. Heat Zipper Iverson Ball Screen
06/27/2013The Miami Heat run a lot of stuff to get Lebron James a catch in the middle of the floor. Here they use a zipper action to clear out Chalmers or Cole and to get the ball to James. The PG runs off an Iverson cut after giving the ball up to James to clear the side. The 2 man in this case Wade would come ball screen after setting the Iverson and then spread to the opposite side of the floor. If James still hasn't created anything the 4 man, Chris Bosh after setting his Iverson screen would come over and set a ball screen with the entire left side of the floor cleared for a 2 man game. Here they sent #55 Roy Hibbert up immediatly on the catch to set a ball screen for George while clearing out the left side of the floor.
