Basketball Play - Houston EOH Flare-Stagger

Houston EOH Flare-Stagger

Daniel Murphy 05/05/2013

Houston ran this sideline out of bounds play for a layup with 1.9 seconds left in the second quarter of their 105-102 game 2 loss to the Thunder 4/24/13. This play involves a flare screen, then a stagger. The play worked beautifully and if you save this for a special situation could win you a game. Timing is crucial, as Delfino was on the move as Harden was recieving the flare screen. Also make sure 5 turns to rescreen for the stagger. See More

This is a baseline out of bounds play that I ran this season with my high school team. Initially when I drew up this action I invisioned utilizing the ending of the play to get 5 a lay-up. But the option that was usually open was 3 cutting to the wing for a shot. 5 was rarely open for 2 reasons; one was a lack of patience and two being that they would forget to run this option. Nevertheless, this is a simple play that I believe can be utilized at every level of the game. See More

The Sacramento Kings ran this play with less than a minute to go in their 112-108 loss to the Clippers on 4/17/13. DeMarcus Cousins scored 36 points in the game and this is one of back to back inbounds plays he scored on. Although you might not have DeMarcus Cousins on your team, this will work for your best post player or any other player who you feel has a mismatch in the foul line area. See More

Head Coach John Calipari ran a lot more set plays this season with his young group of Wildcats. Here is an Early Offense play looking to either get off a lob pass to your 4 man or use the DHO to get a shot off with the hand-off man acting a screener for the guard coming off the backscreen. The Sacramento Kings ran this sideline inbounds play with less than one minute left in their 112-108 loss to the Clippers on 4/17/2013. DeMarcus Cousins had a big game scoring 36 points and scored on two inbounds plays with less than a minute left to keep the game close. If you have a matchup advantage it is a good idea to isolate the scorer and let them do what they do best. See More

Quick 2

Kyle Gilreath 04/25/2013

Wednesday night Kevin McHale drew up this quick action to get a score before heading into overtime of Game 2 of the NBA Playoffs versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. With the defense so consumed with Harden possibly coming back off another screen from Smith, they left Delfino wide open for a lay-up. See More
