About This Play/Drill

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a warmup drill that works on dribble moves and outlet passes. We primarily used the drill to work on outlet passes, as we wanted all players to be able to rebound the ball and advance it up the sideline on a longer pass in our transition offense attack.

  • Basketball Play - Full Court Lay Ups Drill

The ball starts underneath the basket as the outlet passer throws the ball off the backboard, jumps to rebound it at its high point, lands on two feet, pivots, and throws an outlet pass. The pass receiver will start below the block and sprint the lane catching the ball going full speed, simulating "FIRE." The pass receiver works on a specific change of direction move at the cone and and specific finish at the rim.

We can use also Stan Jones "Power Shuffle Lay-ups": Speed dribble to two power shuffles and power lay-up, dribble against contact (coach with a pad), deliver the first blow, tape off 45 degree angle - work the line w contact.
