About This Play/Drill

Players start the drill with the ball in the corner.

Good drill to improve ballhandling and catching in the post.

This  will help players get in the habit of looking back into the post after coming off the baseline.

  • Perimeter player starts with the ball in the corner and dribbles off the baseline. Post player comes across the lane posting up above the block.

  • Perimeter comes to a jump stop near the wing area. Player then steps back across his body to make a post feed. Important on the pass to use the top leg closest to half court to step across the body. This protects the ball and gets passer closer to the receiver. Emphasis is to throw low bounce pass. Extend chest over thigh on pass.

  • After hitting the post man, perimeter move to the open area for return pass.

  • The importance of the "Hit the Post and Move" drill is the perimeter player getting in the habit of moving once the pass goes to the post. This takes away any double down from the man guarding the ball. If defender doubles down, the passer is open for the shot.
