Basketball Play - Spurs Stagger On-Ball

Spurs Stagger On-Ball

Kevin Bruinsma 07/08/2013

The spacing on this set is incredibly tight which places high importance on the ball handlers ability and the screeners timing. Here the San Antonio Spurs run #9 Tony Parker off a stagger screen while allowing #20 Manu Ginobili uses a #21 Tim Duncan ball screen. With the spacing being so tight the help defense is non-existent as they are hugged up with their own man. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona 1-4 High Clear Lob

Arizona 1-4 High Clear Lob

Wes Kosel 04/07/2015

Here is a 1-4 high play that Arizona liked to use early in the games this season. The play creates an overload on the left side of the floor to open up a quick lob for the point guard. If the lob isn't open, multiple ball-screens and hand-offs are executed to create scoring options. Arizona used this play a lot towards the end of the season, especially in the Pac-12 and NCAA Tournaments. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Wing Twist Fence"

Golden State Warriors "Wing Twist Fence"

Gibson Pyper 06/01/2015

This is great action that flows directly out of their early offense and 21 series, with options for both Klay and Steph. The ball is pushed early with a pass just like 21, but instead the player receiving the first pass reverses the ball to the trailing big at the top of the key. After this Steph and Klay play off each other screening for one another and reading the defense. Whichever guard pops to the wing comes off a dribble hand off from the big, the other comes off double screen on opposite side. Kerr runs a couple of wrinkles out of this action, having Klay being a screener in the double screen and peeling off for a shot and another nice Elevator counter out of it. See More

Basketball Play - Sooner BLOB 4 Low DHO Stagger

Sooner BLOB 4 Low DHO Stagger

Wes Kosel 03/20/2015

Lon Kruger called this play in the second half against Albany. In this BLOB, the Sooners are trying to get an open shot on the perimeter for Buddy Hield. Hield starts out at the block in front of the ball. The play starts with a cross-screen by Hield for 4. 4 gets the ball at the elbow and gives the ball to the inbounder on a dribble hand-off. Once the point guard has the ball back, he sets up a misdirection by dribbling left as Hield cuts off of a staggered screen out to the right wing. 1 passes to Hield for a 3-point shot. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA to Stagger

UCLA to Stagger

Andrew Lacey 04/10/2015

Here is an little adjustment to the UCLA to Ball Screen action that I posted earlier. Here we use the UCLA (rub cut) and allow the Post to reverse the ball to change the sides of the floor. You can get a nice ISO inside early on the reversal or you can wait for the jumper as the second option. See More

Basketball Play - Triple

Triple

Rich Czeslawski 06/19/2012

On Triple, we want the ball pushed down the sideline as early as possible. In this frame, 1 pushes the ball down the right side to the two. We would ideally like 2 to catch (or dribble to) the free throw line extended. On 2's catch, the 5, 1, and 4 will quick screen across the lane for 3 who comes off the triple screen looking for the quick three point shot. 2 should pass to 3 if open. If x4 steps out to stop the pass from 2 to 3, we want the 3 to immediately backcut to the rim. As soon as 3 basket cuts, 4 will screen for 1 who will curl back for the three point shot. Depending on the game situation, we will take the layup or three point shot. Again, with simple cuts we are able to move quickly to a 1-4 high set or any other alignment necessary to begin our offensive possession if we are not able to get a good shot off our Triple Secondary play. Basketball Play - Iowa Low Stacks Flare

Iowa Low Stacks Flare

Wes Kosel 03/20/2015

Iowa ran this play in the second half to get an open lay-up for Aaron White. The play starts with 2 low stacks. White (5) pops out to the perimeter. If he has a shot here he can take it. If not, 4 sets a flare-screen for 1. 5 passes to 1 on the wing. Once 1 has the ball, 5 cuts off of a back-screen from 2. In the game, 1 hits White on the cut for a lay-up. If White isn't open, 1 can pass to 2 cutting up off of a down-screen from 4. See More
