Toronto Raptors - Horns Flex Uphill DHO

Cooper Smither 02/12/2019

This is an after time out (ATO) play primarily used by Head Coach Nick Nurse and the Toronto Raptors to get Kyle Lowry a pull-up 3-pointer. By keeping the defense honest with the occassional solid cross screen and flex cut, Lowry's defender is forced to trail him as he approaches the "uphill" DHO to make this an effective set play. Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - Snap 3

Toronto Raptors - Snap 3

Cooper Smither 02/12/2019

The Toronto Raptors have utilized "Snap" action to intitiate much of their offense for the past two season - and "Snap 3" is no exception. As a way to incorporate Kawhi Leonard and his skillset into its base offense, Toronto has added this post up play. It has also been sparingly used for other Raptors, such as Pascal Siakam, in order to isolate a mismatch. Free Download: Toronto Raptors Playbook See More

Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - Horns 4 Iso

Toronto Raptors - Horns 4 Iso

Cooper Smither 01/11/2019

With Nick Nurse taking over as the Head Coach of the Toronto Raptors for the 2018-19 season, he introduced a myriad of new plays and actions to the offense that he reportedly had a significant influence over during Dwane Casey's previous tenure. This play, loosely out of Horns formation, leverages the unique skillset of Toronto's emerging star in Pascal Siakam. By creating a large gap for Siakam to attack the closeout, and clearly scripting the play in a manner that Siakam is instructed to make the catch "on the run," Toronto has been able to score effectively on this simple action. Basketball Play - Washington Wizards - Horns Reverse DHO

Washington Wizards - Horns Reverse DHO

Cooper Smither 04/19/2018

The Washington Wizards run much of their halfcourt offense out of Horns sets. Scott Brooks uses this action to free up the Wizards guards to shoot off the dribble driving towards the middle of the floor. The non-shooting big will never set the ball screen when this action is being used, and will dive to the rim while the stretch 4 pops for the DHO. See More

Basketball Play - Washington Wizards - Zipper Pindown SLOB

Washington Wizards - Zipper Pindown SLOB

Cooper Smither 04/16/2018

The Washington Wizards will run several inbounds plays that start with a Zipper cut first. This SLOB play used by Scott Brooks allows the inbounder to get an open pass to a guard coming toward the sideline before looking to the weak side for a quick pindown. The Wizards have several good off-ball shooters that use down screens well, and this is one play that allows them to use that action. See More

Basketball Play - Washington Wizards - Motion Strong Flex

Washington Wizards - Motion Strong Flex

Cooper Smither 04/16/2018

The Washington Wizards have incorporated both Motion Weak and Strong sets into their playbook to reduce the monotony of a guard-oriented, pick and roll heavy offensive attack. Scott Brooks will use this action for Motion Weak as well (ball reversal with shallow cut from guard to weak side). The Wizards are not strict as to what option they will go to out of this set, as they will take what the defense gives them throughout the Motion Flex sequence. See More

Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - Stack Pick and Roll

Toronto Raptors - Stack Pick and Roll

Cooper Smither 04/09/2018

The Toronto Raptors have followed the league-wide trend of introducing stack pick and rolls into their offensive playbook over the past two seasons. It leverages their best players' top skills, as their backcourt is tremendous in pick and roll scenarios, while Kyle Lowry in particular is a tremendous screener for his size. Dwayne Casey has implimented the use of stack pick and rolls by toying around with how the action is initiated, but has recently settled on going 4 flat along the baseline before lifting the screeners for the high ball screen.
