Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Philadelphia 76ers summer league team ran this play down 3 with 4.2 seconds left to get them a look at a 3. Though it was unsuccessful it gave them two opportunities get a 3 point shot. 2 curls off of the staggered screen for the first option. 5 then screens for 3 for the second one. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Memphis Grizzlies ran this down 4 with 20 seconds left in an NBA Summer League game. In this situation they would need 2 scores and they opted to go for the 3 coming out of a timeout. The multiple screening actions from 4 & 5 caused the defensive confusion and led to an open shot for 4. 4 & 5's defenders have to guard back to back screening actions, first with the Iverson cut made by 2 and then the elevator screen for 3. If 5 cut to the basket instead of drifting to the perimeter he might have gotten a layup or at least would have created more space for the shot from 4. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawDown 3 with 3.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League championship game, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out of bounds play to get Denzel Valentine a clean look at a 3. This play uses the skip pass action that Brad Stevens has used at both Butler and the Boston Celtics in end game situations. The Bulls ran their own variation of the play that started with a decoy cross screen for Valentine instead of the zipper screen that Stevens uses. This action caused the defense to relax, thinking Valentine was covered after defending the initial cross screen successfully. The rescreen for Valentine then freed him up for the game tying shot. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe San Antonio Spurs summer league team ran an End of Game (EOG) play to beat the Warriors at the buzzer with a lob to Jonathan Simmons. The play showed how teams could take advantage of defenses that hard hedge (when the screener’s defender steps in the path of player coming off the screen) or switch off ball screens. Kyle Anderson is tasked with inbounding the ball, in the stronger side corner is the Spurs best shooter in DeJounte Murray. His job is not to move from that spot and keep the floor spread. Bryn Forbes is in the weakside corner and it appears as if CJ Williams and Simmons are setting a double staggered for Forbes. As Forbes comes off the first screen, Simmons’ defender jumps out early to hedge on the screen and make it a difficult entry pass to Forbes. As soon as the defender hedges Simmons slips right to the basket without ever setting the screen. Anderson throws the lob but it is a little off target but Simmons uses his athleticism to catch the ball, gather himself and goes straight up to score over the defense. Even if the defense switched in this situation Simmons would have the superior position as he has a direct lane to the basket and there would be no one in between him and the ball. The play above is a great example of a team slipping a screen to take advantage of teams See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawClose games in NBA Summer League are a great time to experiment with sets and end of game plays (EOG) for coaching staffs. The Los Angeles Lakers executed a great pick the picker action to buy D’Angelo Russell enough time to hit the game winning three. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawA great drill that simultaneously improves your team and individual players offensively and defensively is a series of 3 on 3 drills. Offensively, we work on dribble hand-offs, cuts, shooting, passing, catching, screens, and timing. Defensively, we work on communication and the different ways to defend screens. I also like this drill because it helps to reduce turnovers. See More
