Basketball Play - 5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary action out of a 5 Out fast break where we drag screen with our post player, and then roll them into the lane. While our post player is rolling, we are creating spacing to make a post entry. Against switching ball screen defenses, this creates an easy mismatch to exploit without having to stop and set up a formal offense. Basketball Play - 1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

Matt Hackenberg 11/24/2021

This is a zone set using a 1-2-2 alignment. I love the play because if nothing materializes, you are left with a 1-3-1 alignment that plays well against most zones. The ball is entered to the wing, and the wing uses a drag dribble down the sideline to shift the defense. The ball is returned to 1 who dribbles to the other side of the court while reading the defense. The action is a stagger screen with a slip into the middle of the defense. Our primary look is the slip to the middle, but we would take the stagger if the defense didn't cover it. Getting the slip in the middle opens up many options for the offense - shot, kick down, kick out. See More

Basketball Play - Swing - Meet Up - Reject

Swing - Meet Up - Reject

Randy Sherman 06/09/2021

An excerpt from our new Five-Out Package Playbook In this sequence, the opening is the SWING to Player 5. The passer then gets into a MEET UP with Player 2. Player 5 takes the ball to the action with the dribble. In this diagram, Player 2 REJECTS the MEET UP and the action flows into either a pass-and-follow DRAG ball screen or a FLIP (dribble handoff). From there the offense is into EURO. Frames 5 and 6 show how we can SWING and get into a MEET UP on the second side. See More

Basketball Play - Oregon State Beavers - Stagger Pick & Roll

Oregon State Beavers - Stagger Pick & Roll

Roberto Fois 03/28/2021

Oregon State ran this action vs Loyola Chicago during the 1st half of the Sweet 16 game in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. With this set you can easily find different solutions for your offense: after the drag you could have a post action, or even a straight 3pt shot situation aftter the Stagger. The flare at the same time of the Middle Pick & Roll helps the offense to release the pressure from the defense. It's not possible to help on the ball side after the hard hedge cover, and on the weak side the defender has to choose to cover the roller or the shooter. Check out the video below. Basketball Play - NC State Wolfpack WBB - Early Offense

NC State Wolfpack WBB - Early Offense

Aaron Schuck 02/10/2021

Top 5-ranked NC State women's basketball is turning into a top 15 team each season under head coach Wes Moore. In this early offense ball screen, the guard drag dribbles off it forcing a numbers advantage for the offense. The defense has also been stretched and has to cover a lot of space to get back in the play. *New customers use code SAVE10 for 10% OFF Draw/Scout* See More

Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Kitchen Sink

Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Kitchen Sink

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is a sample of the Texas Tech true motion offense. This is not a set play but a picture of the sequences of actions you will have to guard when facing them. In one possession you have to guard: a drag screen, flare screen, slipped step-up screen, a pick & pop, and one last flare screen by the 5 to empty the paint. The spacing struggles at times but they force you into uncommon situations and actions that it presents the opportunity for miscommunication and scoring opportunities. Basketball Play - Seton Hall Pirates - Double High Flare

Seton Hall Pirates - Double High Flare

Doug Brotherton 03/22/2019

Seton Hall battled Wofford in a great game in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Seton Hall ran a double drag ball screen, with a strong side down screen. This was all to open up a weak side flare. It is a good action, to get a 3, or a clear out for an isolation to attack off the bounce. #FastModelMadness NCAA Tournament: Viewing Guide by Style of Play See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Fist STS

Boston Celtics - Fist STS

KJ Smith 05/15/2018

Quick hitter from the Celtics playbook. A drag screen during the secondary break takes place while a cross screen for the post occurs under the rim. Afterwards the drag screener will pindown for the cross screener to get a shot from 3. It's important for the weak side corner to be filled to prevent help on the down screen. If there isn't a shot, 3 receives a ball screen from 5 to attack with the floor spread. FMS Blog: Boston Celtics - Keeping it Simple with Spread Offense See More
