Basketball Play - Olympiacos 1-4 High

Olympiacos 1-4 High

Daniel Murphy 05/16/2013

Olympiacos ran this set with less than two minutes left in the first half of their Euroleague semi final win over CSKA. It is a relatively simple play, with the guards looping to set up a side ball screen, but the corner drift and flare from 4 to 1 kept the weak side defense occupied to free up the roll man. 2 could have passed to 3 in the corner, 1 coming off the flare, 4 slipping a screen, 4 stepping out after setting the screen, or 5 could have popped after setting the screen. Basketball Play - CSKA Blob

CSKA Blob

Daniel Murphy 05/15/2013

CKSA ran this blob at the end of the first half in their Euroleague semi final loss to Olympiacos. If you are having trouble inbounding the ball or turning the ball over from the baseline, try setting a double screen. I have rarely seen a double screen used at H.S.'s or on the AAU circuit. At the very least you should get the ball in bounds and if x4 or x5 do not defend properly can slip to the basket for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Spur

Spur

John Leonzo 05/15/2013

Here is a set play that was run numerous times in the Spurs second game vs. the Golden State Warriors last night. This play starts out of a 3-out 2-in set and quickly develops into a set that gives you a screen and roll option on the strong side and a stagger screen on the weak side. This play is effective because the strong side ball screen forces the defenders of 5 or 3 on the weak side to be in help and will allow either 5 or 3 to slip to the basket after setting their screen. Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Nigh May 15: Golden State Warriors Elbow Flex

NBA Play of the Nigh May 15: Golden State Warriors Elbow Flex

Kyle Gilreath 05/15/2013

I am sure I have posted this play in the past but it is one of my favorites so I wanted to post it again! The Golden State Warriors went to this action in the 1st Half of Game 4 versus the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. This elbow set into a flex action is very popular in the NBA; Stan Van Gundy ran it religiously in Orlando. While us coaches are all very familiar with the Flex, I have learned recently that many young players today are not familiar with how to run the play NOR guard it. In my opinion, if you have two great scorers on the floor, this is a very difficult action to guard. The defense has to respect the flex cut give up a lay-up. Then by pinning down on the screener, the defense must make a decision how to guard and if they over-react the big will be open slipping to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day May 13 from the San Antonio Spurs: Zipper Twist Special

NBA Play of the Day May 13 from the San Antonio Spurs: Zipper Twist Special

Kyle Gilreath 05/13/2013

Last night trailing the Golden State Warriors in overtime of Game 3 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals, the San Antonio Spurs ran this beautiful Sideline Out of Bounds play to get Danny Green an open 3-pointer. Coach Popovich did a tremendous job with the spacing of his personnel on the floor with this action. First, by slipping Tim Duncan to the rim, it forced the weak side defenders to help in the ane a little more. Secondly, with the defense already shifted in the lane, as Leonard sprinted out into the pick the Warriors' defense helped high which opened up a driving lane for Ginobili. With the defense focused on Duncan and Ginobili this opened up the flare in the corner for the knock down 3-pointer. See More

This play was run by the lakers in their 118-116 win over the Warrios 4/12/13. It allows your best play maker to set and slip a screen to roll to the basket and recieve a pass on the run to the hoop and make a play. See More

Basketball Play - Stevenson-Triple

Stevenson-Triple

Kyle Brown 02/25/2013

A good blob from a high school game this week. A natural triple for a shooter that the team scored twice on. The first time they slipped the last screen and the second time they got an open 3 for the player they were setting the triple for. Could also run a single double action out of this or run it against a zone. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen with Cross Screen & Down Screen

Ball Screen with Cross Screen & Down Screen

Basketball HQ 02/10/2013

This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. The big key for this play to work is having a post player that can make a pass out of the post. You have to make sure you get the timing down of your 5 man rolling off of the ball screen into the cross screen from 2, and your 4 man receiving the pass from 1. If you can train your 4 man to make the read on slipping the down screen set for 2, you will be able to get him easy lay ups. See More
