Stagger screen for either of your best shooters. If 5 man helps too much on the screen, make sure to look inside for the slip instead of screen and space. In frame 3 you can see the spacing and how 5, 3 and 1 spread the floor. If you have more coaches you can have 3 take the shot off the curl and have a coach make two passes to 1 or add another coach and have one coach pass to 1 and another coach pass to 2. See More

Here is a set play that can be run for continuity with a stagger screen going on each time it is run. This is a great play to get a 3 point play for your 3 man, but it can be an even more effective ISO for 2 if the ball is thrown to him as he pulls across the lane. Because of the stagger going on the opposite side of the floor, the help side should be occupied and 2 can have a good chance to attack and create. Another option that could be open is 4 slipping to the basket after setting his top part of the stagger screen. If his man hedges hard to help on 3 popping to the wing, you could have a good look at 4 slipping to the basket. See More

This is an excellent quick hitter the Sacramento Kings ran during the 2013 NBA Las Vegas Summer League. One of the options not drawn is for 4 to slip hard to the rim if X4 jumps out hard to help on the flare screen for 3. The shot for 2 is more likely in high school or college because X2 is allowed to sit in the lane and help, whereas in the NBA they can only sit there for 2.9 seconds. See More

Kevin Stallings and Vanderbilt have run this play for a few seasons, most notably with Festus Ezeli during the 2011-2012 season. As a four guard set it opens up the lane for a screening big man to slip to the rim and for guards to get many good shooting looks. See More

It draws up a quick three-pointer for a stretch 4 and an opportunity for a slipped layup at the rim. The Orlando Magic ran this simultaneous pin down action yesterday out of the horns set. This is a very simple play to put into your system that gives you multiple scoring options. Options: 1. While 4 help defenders are occupied with the pindowns 1 has the option to take his man on the dribble to the rim or pull-up jumper. 2. Hit 2 or 3 on the pop or curl for a shot. 3. If 2 or 3 do not make a scoring play, have the big set a side or step-up pick & roll for them. 4. If X4 or X5 over help on the pin down, slip your bigs to the rim for a lob. 5. Have 2 and 3 come off the pindowns and set up in a horns set for pick & roll options for 1. See More

The Spurs ran a nice variety of stuff out of the classic Horns set. They also loved to do things with a stagger action. Here they got their 2 the ball off a stagger and immediatly into a dribble handoff. This put the defense in a trailing position, and allowed the 5 to slip right to the rim for a basket against the Miami Heat. See More

Although this set didn't result in a basket or even free throws it forced a great defensive effort from the Miami Heat to stop the Pacers from scoring. This action puts a lot of pressure on the defense as they have to guard a mis direction cut by the 2, then the stagger iverson action for #24 Paul George who everyone thinks the play is going to, a flare screen for #21 David West, and then finally a slip/dive to the rim by #55 Roy Hibbert. The Heat ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers. The actions is very similar to the play posted here http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/2187/play-Elbow-Weak-Stagger The difference is instead of 4 screening 1 into a 2 man game with 3, 4 turns back to set the ball screen. Haslem's man was zoning the middle of the lane to protect a back door cut, a hard curl, or a slip. By having Haslem set the screen there was no type of help coverage on the ball screen and James had a wide open 17 ft. jump shot. See More

The Indiana Pacers ran this Sideline Out of Bounds play on Saturday during Game 6 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat. I drew up several zipper actions from the Pacers last week and this ending is great to get your big posted up on the block with limited help. If the defense decides to double on the catch or earlier, you have 2 coming off a a pin-down or 4 slipping to the rim as options. See More

Here is play that I saw Saint Louis run and I adapted it to work out of a box set. The few times that I saw SLU run this they always hit the first screener that slipped his screen. SLU ran this out of a 1-4 high formation and it can be adapted to work in that way as well. See More

The New York Knicks ran this play during their playoff loss versus the Indiana Pacers Saturday night in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. There are severals aspects I love about this play. 1. I love running staggered pick & rolls (especially at lower levels) because most coaches do not teach their players how to guard. **I teach the first big to level the screen to prevent the slip and the second big to be the hedger/trapper/helper. 2. By using Carmelo in the first pick, the defense did not want to detach itself for too long and giveaway a look from the Knicks' best player. 3. The Knicks spaced two shooters in the corners (2-JR Smith, 4-Copeland) which made it difficult to help on this action and give up an open corner three. See More
