Basketball Play - Memphis' Marc Gasol Elbow Series (Part 1)

Memphis' Marc Gasol Elbow Series (Part 1)

Mark Travis 02/13/2013

Marc Gasol is one of the truly underappreciated players in the league. He's a solid post-up player, a decent shooter, the best big man passer in the league (with his brother being a close second) and he may very well be the defensive player of the year in the NBA right now. Memphis' offense is a cramped, inconsistent and often times ineffective collaboration of players who shrink the floor in an era that thrives on spacing it. When things go well for the Grizzlies, it almost always has something to do with Marc Gasol making a play for his teammates. Gasol is deadly from the elbows, as that position on the floor gives him a perfect vantage point of the floor and allows him to distribute from a high-low perspective. Here is one way the Grizz utilize Gasol's skillset from that particular spot on the floor. See More

BLOB Elbow Double Stack Play

Basketball HQ 11/26/2012

This set was run by Marion Military Community College in the 2011-2012 season. This set is designed to get a lay up for your best slasher, or a three point shot for your best shooter. As your three man is coming off of the elbow double stack, he has to read the defense. If they trail him, he curls off of the double stack for a lay up, if they go under, he cuts for a midrange shot or three point shot. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Double Stack with Loop Action

Elbow Double Stack with Loop Action

Basketball HQ 10/10/2012

Being a good scorer depends so much on reading the defense and being able to score within the offense. This play makes the defender decide whether he is going to chase over top of the screen or go under. If he goes under you stop and shoot the 3 if he chases over sweep and drive to the basket. Read the defender to see if he goes under or over on the screen. The other wing needs to clear out of there and space for a shot. This play is from the Duke 2005-2006 season. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Double Stack

Elbow Double Stack

Basketball HQ 10/04/2012

The double stack screeners need to set a good solid screen and the shooter needs to read if the defender is going to go under or over the screens. Having a good out of bounds plays can be the difference in a game. When you practice them make sure that you practice them full speed and talk about the different looks that the inbounder needs to make on the pass. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season.
