Basketball Play - Smash vs Match-up Zone

Smash vs Match-up Zone

Rory Hamilton 03/26/2018

"Smash" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone Defense. The key to this play is to make bottom defender of zone commit to either the dribble or wing shooter coming to the corner. The goal is to seal off the middle of the zone and bring the other post player low for a layup. Blog Post: Keys to Attacking a Match-up Zone See More

Basketball Play - Flood C vs Match-up Zone

Flood C vs Match-up Zone

Rory Hamilton 03/26/2018

"Flood C" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone Defense. It is the counter to "Flood" and is run to get a 3pt shot from the corner. The play begins the same way as flood and the action stays the same. Where this play differs from Flood is that instead of throwing back to the 1 after the drag dribble, 2 throws it right back to the 4. 5 sets a screen on the bottom of the zone and 3 comes back ball side looking to catch and shoot behind 5's screen. Matt Wheeler 03/22/2018

This play was #9 on the most downloaded plays of 2018! Check out the full list and download the playbook: The Top 25 Plays of 2018 The Ramblers set up this ball screen action with a dribble handoff for 2. 2 then dribbles off the double ball screen from 4 and 5 to the other side of the floor. By having 1 in the corner, this puts x1 (usually the smallest defender) in a position to provide help on 5 rolling to the basket. If 5 isn't available, 2 can reverse the ball back up top to 4 to create a play. On the FMS blog: Loyola Chicago - Ball Screen Offense Breakdown See More

Basketball Play - Loyola Chicago - Punch Hammer

Loyola Chicago - Punch Hammer

Doug Brotherton 03/15/2018

Loyola Chicago ran the best set play of the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This "Punch Hammer" set resulted in a wide open 3, to tie the game, late in the second half. The post entry sucks in the help defense, before the baseline skip pass (HAMMER ACTION) led to the important 3pt shot. The Ramblers of Loyola Chicago went on to upset Miami, on a buzzer beater, and beat Nevada and Kansas State en route to the Final Four.
