About This Play/Drill

Counters to the UNC Secondary Break.

"Dribble" option is a counter to denial of pass to the trailing post.

It is a read not a call. Players react to point guard dribbling over the high ball screen from the trailer.

Tips:

  • 2's rule is the same: Touch the block then backscreen for trailer
  • 4 goes and sets the ball screen even with the lane line
  • 2 takes one or two dribbles after separating from the screen and looks to make "scoop" entry into the post

  • If no primary options are available, UNC uses secondary spacing and reads the defensive coverage.

1 has the option of dribbling over the trailer (4) and using the high ball screen.

4 should set ball screen for 1 even with the lane line

5 follows the movement of the ball to opposite block

  • STS Action

2 follows the same rules as the "regular" pass reversal option: touch the block to set the screening angle then backscreen for trailer.

2 sets backscreen for 4 then separates from the screen to the perimeter

1 looks for lob to 4

  • If lob to 4 is defended, 1 passes to 2

4 looks to seal his man in the post

2 takes a dribble to improve passing angle to 4 in the post (first option for 2 is to enter to post)

  • 3 sets up his cut and receives a staggered screen from 1 and 5

    1 sets first screen

5 lifts up the lane line and sets the second screen

2 has option of 3 coming off the stagger
