Basketball Play - Pacer Misdirection

Pacer Misdirection

Kevin Bruinsma 06/18/2013

The Indiana Pacers ran this set a few times in the ECF against the Miami Heat. They utilized mis-direction against an aggressive Heat defense to keep Miami on their toes. Following the UCLA screen and flex screen the 1 man then turns right back around to get the 3, letting #24 Paul George run off a stagger screen. This brought the 1 off a down screen and gave him the ball back in a better scoring area for him to create. See More

Basketball Play - Pacer Iverson Empty Side Ball Screen

Pacer Iverson Empty Side Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 06/17/2013

The Indiana Pacers loved to run #24 Paul George off the Iverson Action or Zipper screens to get him open. Here after running off #21 David West's Iverson screen, he gets a ball screen from him. The key to this action is everyone clearing out on the ball screen as the 5 ducks in to the middle of the paint. With #21 West's shooting ability and #24 George's ability to create, score, and make plays more often then not the opponents in this case the Miami Heat will switch the bigs sending the 5 man's defender out to defend the popping 4 man. This leaves the 5 man with a guard dropping down on him. #55 Roy Hibbert did an unbelievable job of getting to the lane and sealing a smaller 2 man here. See More

With so much attention being placed on #24 Paul George the Indiana Pacers used him in every set they ran as either the main option or a decoy. Here he starts by running an iverson action across the floor to get the defense focused on him. #21 David West flashes up to the elbow for his catch. On his catch #24 George runs right around him to the basket. West has a simple read throw it to George or if his man backs off to protect the pass, shoot the ball. See More

A common screen the screener set ran by a lot of High School, College, and NBA teams was used by the Indiana Pacers against the Miami Heat. As you will see in most of Indiana's play sets they run a lot of stuff for their 3 man, #24 Paul George. Here they use George to set the back screen for the post before he runs off 5's screen for a wing catch. He has the option to shoot, drive, or dump it inside to the posting #55 Roy Hibbert. See More

Basketball Play - Pacer 1-4 High Set

Pacer 1-4 High Set

Kevin Bruinsma 06/14/2013

This is a set the Indiana Pacers ran against the Miami Heat in the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals. Looking to get their marquee player, Paul George a isolated post/wing catch the Pacers sent #24 George to the opposite side of the court before coming back hard to the ball on the reversal for deep post position. If #24 George couldn't catch the ball deep he moved out to the mid-wing area for a catch. This is where Indiana ran a great alternative action to get an even deeper post touch. #50 Tyler Hansbrough after entering the ball to George comes down the lane and sets a screen for #55 Roy Hibbert right in the middle of the lane, who now gets a deep post catch right in the middle of the paint. NBA Play of the Day June 4: Miami Heat Post Sneak - Start Game

Kyle Gilreath 06/04/2013

During Game 7 of last night's ECF between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, the Heat won the tip-off to start the game and ran this quick hitter to try and get Wade going early. Wade has been struggling throughout the Playoffs and there is no better way to ignite a player than by showing your confidence in them running the first play of the game for them. Unfortunately for Wade and the Heat, Roy Hibbert quickly rotated to prevent the easy lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Twist

Zipper Twist

Kyle Gilreath 05/31/2013

There is no better way to end the week than with one last zipper action from the Indiana Pacers. They ran this play versus the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the ECF. The Pacers have had much success in pick & roll situations finding Hibbert on the role for points in the paint. This is an excellent way to set up a pick & roll for Hibbert. By placing a shooter (3) in the corner it makes helping on the roll of 5 harder because if the defense sags in a talented point guard will throw back to 3 for a shot. See More
