Basketball Play - 2 on 2 Triangle Fast Break

2 on 2 Triangle Fast Break

Kyle Gilreath 05/29/2014

Following drill was a part of a skill packet we mailed out to coaches when I was at the University of Florida. Yesterday I posted phase 1 of the build up with the 2-on-1. A 2nd defender is added whose main job is to spring back down the floor and get back into the play. Start with the same set-up as you did in the 2-on-1 drill, but place the 2nd defender under the rim. The 2nd defender’s goal is to get to the inside track of the player opposite of the ball. Just like in the 2-on-1 drill, the offensive players are trying to attack the rim to score, remaining 2-3 feet outside of the lane. See More

Basketball Play - 2 on 1 Triangle Fast Break

2 on 1 Triangle Fast Break

Kyle Gilreath 05/29/2014

Following drill was a part of a skill packet we mailed out to coaches when I was at the University of Florida. Two offensive players start 2-3 feet outside of the lane along the baseline. Start the defensive player at the free-throw line. Drill starts with a coach holding a ball around the free-throw line area, and passing it to one of the offensive players. Once the ball is passed, the defensive player should immediately turn and sprint to half-court and get down in a defensive stance with active hands. The offensive players should remain 2-3 feet outside of the lane as they attack the other end. They should not be too wide, so the defense can recover, and not be too close, so the defense is able to cover both players. The offensive player with the ball should not pass the ball until the defense totally commits to him (bounce pass for lay-up). If the defense does not commit, shoot a lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Triangle Ball Screen

Michigan Triangle Ball Screen

Trevor Daugherty 04/07/2014

Michigan ran this triangle set often during NCAA Tournament, particularly early in games. The motion creates a lot of movement, and ends with the ball in your best player's hands. The ball screen typically involved Stauskas (2) and Morgan (5). Because of the attention Stauskas gets, it often resulted in an open lane for Morgan to slip, because of the spacing it is difficult for the defense to leave good shooters. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle

Triangle

Bert DeSalvo 03/23/2014

Larry Johnson, Head Women's Basketball Coach, used this set in the 2010-11 season to free up a quick guard cutting off the backscreen. If the cutter gets help from screeners man, then the backscreener has a 3pt FGA. See More

Basketball Play - Inside Triangle

Inside Triangle

Randy Brown 02/18/2014

This is an inside triangle set that can be run as a quick hitter or continuity offense. 3-4-5 are in a revolving screen and cut mode. 1 and 2 are available on the wings as receivers and passers into the post. Guards must move up and down sideline to occupy their defenders to allow inside scoring. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle BLOB

Triangle BLOB

Bert DeSalvo 01/16/2014

The backscreen action for the point guard is a great way to iso their point defender in the low post. If your point guard has the quickness advantage over your opponents point guard, you should be able to get a touch in the low post off of this set. If the backscreeners defender gives help, then you have an easy pick and pop scenario for a 3pt look at the top of the key area. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle Down

Triangle Down

Kyle Gilreath 10/24/2013

The Miami Heat ran this action versus the Pelicans Wednesday night to get Chris Anderson an easy dunk at the rim. As 1 was screening for 3, the defense became very oppupied with defending Wade (not seeing the ball). Furthermore, X2 and X5 did not communicate and both ended up on 2, leaving 5 wide open rolling to the rim with no helpside. See More
