Favorite Send to FastDrawInbounding the ball from the corner can be a difficult situation. The Nuggets started this play with good spacing to make sure they got the ball in. Once 1 got the pass they ran a decoy action with 3 cutting across screens from 5 and 4 to shift the defense. 1 then dribbled back to the original side to pass the ball to 2, cutting through the elevator screen for a shot. Favorite Send to FastDrawHead Coach Bob Hill ran this quick play out of transition. Allowing his best shooter 2 and his athletic big 5 an oppertunity to score quickly. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a beautiful set using a decoy spread ball screen to demand coverage and a tight space hand off out of that coverage with a great shooter. The high post flash and back door cut is a page right out of the triangle offense using the "blind pig" action from that offense. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis action out of the Princeton Offense has been a staple of the Toronto Raptors' offense for several years. In fact, it is one of the most pervasive actions across the NBA. Nick Nurse has utilized it at the end of many close games, as well as in normal half court scenarios. Primarily called for Kawhi Leonard to attack the screen defender going downhill, it has also been called for Kyle Lowry and other primary ball handlers on the Raptors in the 2018-19 season. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe play, which can be initiated from SLOB (Sideline out of Bounds) scenarios or a normal half-court possession, is a set that involves a lot of player and ball movement around a post up. Nick Nurse has utilized it quite often to leverage the playmaking abilities of his players that feel comfortable making plays out of the post. Specifically, Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam are usually the main decision makers as the remaining off-ball Raptors screen and cut for one another ot occupy the defense's attention. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a sample of the Texas Tech true motion offense. This is not a set play but a picture of the sequences of actions you will have to guard when facing them. In one possession you have to guard: a drag screen, flare screen, slipped step-up screen, a pick & pop, and one last flare screen by the 5 to empty the paint. The spacing struggles at times but they force you into uncommon situations and actions that it presents the opportunity for miscommunication and scoring opportunities. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is another simple set that has high volume results. Depending on how the defense plays back-screens you can save this wrinkle for a key moment to get a great shooter a shot. If the defender is jumping to the ball and getting through the backscreen first the cutter can simply cut back out on the weak side for a wide open fade. The big can read the catch and go right into a step up screen if there is no advantage on the catch as well. A great wrinkle would be to slip your 5 man on the down-screen if there is switching or miscommunication. Blog Post: Texas Tech Defense Puts Opponents on Red Alert See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is an extremely difficult action to make x5 guard but is incredibly simple to run. We call this "Hot Action" which is a back screen off-ball, followed immediately by an on-ball screen. If the big tags the cutter on the back-screen as he should, unless they are switching, this puts him late to his ball screen coverage. Simple, yet effective. Favorite Send to FastDrawATO set from Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo. Play starts with a 21 DHO on the wing and a Pin Down on the weak side. As the ball is reversed, the PG clears the corner and the wing receives a chin screen for the lob. Diagram is for the traditional set up with a SG receiving the DHO, Michigan State ran this with a taller athlete on the end of a lob. Blog Post: Michigan State's Championship Identity See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawA fantastic set play to get a LOB at the rim by Louisville's women's team in their Sweet 16 matchup with Oregon State. With 5:25 left in the third quarter, Lousiville ran this to counter the 1-1-3 zone employed by Oregon State. An excellent look for ANY team, male or female, trying to get their athletes to the rim.
