Basketball Play - 4 Out Carolina Flex

4 Out Carolina Flex

Matt Hackenberg 03/02/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a long form action used as a 4 Out set. The Carolina back screen and the flex are both hard actions to defend, so cramming them into one play will put a lot of stress on the defense. If you're looking to get the defense moving with player movement and screening, this is a great set for you. Check out this Carolina Flex BLOB set as well. Basketball Play - Princeton Mix Flare

Princeton Mix Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/25/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a Princeton alignment. The mix entry gets some movement going and sets up the flare pretty easily. This set is an easy way to work arond the edges of the defense looking for an easy opportunity without much risk. Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Flare

5 Out DHO Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 5 Out alignment for a flare screen three. This becomes a pretty natural option in a secondary break setting. Simply initiating a DHO can be a trigger to execute the action without any play call. I like the action because it stretches the defense side to side. Basketball Play - 41 Brush Flare

41 Brush Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a clever action. I this is an interesting and unque action, that is also really simple. The actions requires great timing bur presents opportunities for 1 to drive, 2 to play off the flare, and 4 to slip. Basketball Play - 41 Swing Stagger Secondary

41 Swing Stagger Secondary

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary break action to create options on both sides of the court - a post up and a stagger screen. I like the ball is reversed before half court, creating a good flow to offense. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and the more attention paid to the stagger, the more likely the post will be open. Basketball Play - DDM Quick Hitter: Stagger Away

DDM Quick Hitter: Stagger Away

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment. The wing entry and over cut acts as a misdirection, while the stagger screen sets up on the other side. I like this as a simple set play when you need a three. Basketball Play - Chino Hills '15-16: Transition Offense

Chino Hills '15-16: Transition Offense

Matt Hackenberg 01/08/2022

BLOG & PLAYBOOK - Chino Hills Huskies: The Scheme Behind the Ball Brothers In this embedded video and diagram we look at the transition system of the 35-0, state championship Chino Hills team of 2015-16. The Chino Hills transition offense was the main feature of its system. The Huskies played as fast as anyone I've ever seen at the high school level. BLOG & PLAYBOOK - Chino Hills Huskies: The Scheme Behind the Ball Brothers In this embedded video and diagram we look at the half court offense of the 35-0, state championship Chino Hills team of 2015-16. If you're looking for tricky sets, this isn't it. Chino Hills kept it very simple, but got a lot of mileage out of these three simple concepts. Basketball Play - 21 Series Transition Offense

21 Series Transition Offense

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

The 21 series is usually a 3-player action that happens right out of transition. The bunch action makes the options easy to disguise, almost like play action fakes in football. There are a variety of actions that can come from this series, and they all develop quickly, making them ideal for teams that want to play with a fast tempo. Not all the diagrams are represented with clips in the video below, but this was all I could dig up on film. Basketball Play - "FIRE" Transition (on a Miss/TO)

"FIRE" Transition (on a Miss/TO)

Matt Hackenberg 12/11/2021

Our semi-structured break off opponent misses has become one of the calling cards of our program. Through drilling, we've trained the players to rebound, pivot their shoulders up the court and make outlet passes leading to advantage situations for our team. As an undersized team, we view this as a defense against teams crashing the offensive boards hard. Basketball Play - 4 Out, 1 In: Primary Break

4 Out, 1 In: Primary Break

Matt Hackenberg 12/10/2021

We run a structured sideline break to advance makes with pace. A commitment to run is necessary, but we only spend 7-10 minutes a day to ingrain the habits of pushing on both makes and misses. The rim sprint is the most important factor in the primary break as it leads to many easier scoring opportunities.
