Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies WCF Offensive Sets

Memphis Grizzlies WCF Offensive Sets

Kevin Bruinsma 05/30/2013

I figured with so many people doing one set and one drawing, I wanted to offer something different. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. I started with the Memphis Grizzlies. The play diagrams below are drawn for multiple plays with the play name titled directly on top of the court frame. These play diagrams are in order with the video you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hYblZmLbIM&feature=youtu.be This way you can view the video and look at the play diagrams while the video is running. I hope you enjoy looking at the Memphis Grizzlies WCF Playbook. See More

Basketball Play - Bulls Box Ball Screen

Bulls Box Ball Screen

Daniel Murphy 05/30/2013

Play shown by Jeff Van Gundy. He got this from Scott Skiles who ran it with the Bulls with Ben Gordan as the 2. Instead of going 1-4 low at the end of quarters the down screen would start at 7 seconds. Depending on the coverage 2 can pull up for a jump shot or drive for a finish at the rim. 2 can drive and kick to 1. 4 and 5 can roll and replace. 5 can pop and 2 can use the throwback pass. 2 can also pass to 4 if 4's defender helps on the drive. Basketball Play - Louisville Pick N' Pop Counter

Louisville Pick N' Pop Counter

Kevin Bruinsma 05/29/2013

The 2013 NCAA National Champion Louisville Cardinals ran this play a ton throughout their NCAA Tournament run. They utilized #10 Gorgui Dieng's ability to be mobile and make open mid-range jumpers in every single round in the NCAA Tournament. After running a ball screen at the top of the key and throwing the ball back to the 4 man. #3 Peyton Siva would come down in the middle of the lane and set the down screen for #10 Dieng. As this was happening #11 Luke Hancock the Louisville 3 man would move into position to set a baseline screen for #10 Dieng. He now had the option based on the opponent's defense to come off the Gut screen from #3 Siva or the baseline screen set by #11 Hancock. In most cases he came off the gut screen and hit an elbow jumper. See More

Basketball Play - Circle Loop

Circle Loop

Randy Brown 05/29/2013

Misdirection play set up by 1 man making entry pass to 2 and cutting through. 2 brings ball to top on the dribble and looks for 1 on left side. Second option is 3-5 screen for 4 curling to catch and score on right side. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - 22

22

John Leonzo 05/23/2013

Here is play that I saw Saint Louis run and I adapted it to work out of a box set. The few times that I saw SLU run this they always hit the first screener that slipped his screen. SLU ran this out of a 1-4 high formation and it can be adapted to work in that way as well. See More

Basketball Play - Post Rub & Iso

Post Rub & Iso

Randy Brown 05/21/2013

This is a good play for isolating your best post scorer in the low post area. 3 catches from 1 and 1 clears to weak side. On the catch, 4 rubs off 5's screen and cut to high post. This presents two options: 5 seals after screening for 4 OR ball is reversed to high post and 4 hits 5 on a post seal. 1 and 2 occupy defenders on the weak side. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Double Cut Special

Double Cut Special

Randy Brown 05/19/2013

On ball entry, 1 cuts to the lane to screen for 3. 3 uses screen to score possible catch in lane then continues to right short corner. 4 pops out to catch ball reversal from 2. Screen the screener action as 5 screens for 1. On 1's catch, 5 steps out of the lane to screen for 3 who cuts into the paint to catch and score. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day May 23: Boston Celtics EOG SOB LOB

NBA Play of the Day May 23: Boston Celtics EOG SOB LOB

Daniel Murphy 05/18/2013

Down 2 with .7 left the Celtics ran this lob to tie it up vs. the Heat in a 2009 game. Coach Rivers got this play from an AAU game. This play is all about reading the screening action. If 1's defender goes under the screen, 1 would bump off the screen for a jump shot. If 1's defender tries to trail the screen or play on the outside and deny the catch then the curl for the lob is open. If 1's defender fights through the screen but does not deny 1, 1 can still catch and shoot. See More
