Basketball Play - 3-3 Conversion

3-3 Conversion

Daniel Murphy 09/30/2013

Drill stolen from Coach Bob Hurley of St. Anthony H.S. He in turn got it from Dick Harter. As a rule the player who defensive rebounds or takes the ball out of bounds after a score is on offense and the old offense always converts to defense. This is similar to 11 man break or other 3-3 drills where the defense comes in from the sideline, but in my opinion is a little more practical because the defense had to convert from offense and is in a more realistic game scenario. Many successful coaches believe transition defense is one of the top 3 skills a team must have. As such, defensive transition should be drilled daily. A note about drills-make sure to teach the skills you want. Stopping the ball, protecting the basket, communicating, screening, passing, cuttining etc. You can play this drill for a set amount of time ie. 8 minutes and keep score. Depending on what you as a coach want to emphasize, points can be given or taken for offensive rebounds, turnovers etc. Because it is 3-3 conversion, a short clock can be used to promote an aggressive offensive attack. Basketball Play - Stagger to Post Action

Stagger to Post Action

Dana Beszczynski 09/29/2013

Lithuania Coach Kazlauskas has a lot of experence in Europe and his offesive schemes incorporate a lot of ball movement and screening actions. Here is a tremendous set play run against France in the European Championship Final designed to isolate their strong 3 man, but when the play breaks down, the flat screen is used to isolate the PG for either a shot or penetration See More

Basketball Play - 2 Stack

2 Stack

Kyle Gilreath 09/29/2013

This is simple yet very effective zone offense play that is one of my favorites. As 1 dribbles over, 2 overloads the floor making this play difficult to guard every option. After 5 screens in, he should try to post up hard on X5. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB France NT

SLOB France NT

Dana Beszczynski 09/28/2013

A well designed SLOB play run by French National Team Coach Vincent Collet designed to get an isolation in the paint, off a side ball screen. Here France used the low post flash to attack the basket off the ball screen and although this situation was not successful, the play itself brings a multitude of opportunities to score off a dead ball situation. Basketball Play - Short Clock ATO

Short Clock ATO

Kyle Gilreath 09/27/2013

With 3.9 seconds left in Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs ran this play at the end of the 2nd overtime to defeat the Golden State Warriors. X1 was able to trail the screens and stay attached to Parker. Unfortunately X5 was unaware and doubled Parker. Forcing X2 to drop and protect the rim, leaving the skip to Ginobili wide open for a 3-pointer. See More

Basketball Play - 14 Quick

14 Quick

Kyle Gilreath 09/27/2013

The Miami Heat ran this quick hitter last season during the Playoffs to get Chris Bosh a shot off a misdirection. As Wade took one dribble past the pick from Lebron, he quickly turned and fired to Bosh who slipped in behind Haslem. See More

Basketball Play - Louisville Cardinals "3"

Louisville Cardinals "3"

Kyle Gilreath 09/26/2013

This is a baseline out of bounds play Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals ran during the 2013 Final Four and National Champsionship games. Most teams would stop once the ball was inbounded to 1, not the Cards. 3 quickly stepped into to free up Dieng for a post-up. To see EVERY play Louisville ran in the 2012 and 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - "C"

"C"

Kyle Gilreath 09/26/2013

This is another action I watched last night while watching the 1987 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics. Pat Riley called out "C" as the Lakers jogged up court. 3 (Magic Johnson) came off a baseline rub that turned into a staggered pick & roll. See More

Basketball Play - Seattle Slob Punch

Seattle Slob Punch

Daniel Murphy 09/26/2013

Late game play ran by Seattle in the 2000 playoffs vs. the Jazz. Gary Payton inbouded the ball and posted up. If you have a good post up guard this is a simple way to get the ball in the post for an iso, or you can change your personnel and post up any player directly from a side out situation. See More

Basketball Play - Secondary Action France

Secondary Action France

Dana Beszczynski 09/25/2013

This Seconary Action run by France in the Championship Game of the European Championship against Lithuania has a lot of good movement off the ball and creates isolation situations for the post player or an opportunity for a 3 pt shot France with their NBA standouts were very good in utilizing spacing to make such plays effective throughout the 40:00 of action Sunday.
