About This Play/Drill

Use four-player shell drill to teach all aspects of defensive postioning. Help defenders should follow line rules. Defensive players should jump to the pass as the ball moves.

When players are one pass away they are in deny. When on the ball, influence to the appropriate checkpoint. 

Drill Advancement:

  1. Drive gaps and practice "plugging with your butt."
  2. Attack baseline an practice help and help the helper
  3. Weakside exchange from offensive players
  4. Screen away
  5. Skip passes to drill closeouts.

  • Four offensive players are positioned around the perimeter, two above the FT line in the high elbows and two in the corners.

     

    X1 is on the ball and influencing down the rooftop to the sideline checkpoint

     

    X2 is denying one pass away

     

    X4 is denying ball reversal one pass away

     

    X3 is on the lane line (Line Rules)
