About This Play/Drill

Here are two hi/lo options out of the horns set from Miami. Miami is playing well in the NIT with a chance to advance to the finals with a win over Temple. In these options, the Hurricanes use a horns staggered screen with the point guard dribbling from left to right. In the first option, 4 rolls and 5 sets a pin down for 3 in the corner. Once 3 gets the ball he looks to pass inside to 5 or to 4 flashing high post for a hi/lo look. In the second option, 4 sets a flare-screen for 5 before cutting to the block. If 5 isn't open on the screen, he sets a screen for 3 who gets the ball at the top of the key. 3 again looks at 5 or to 4 flashing high.

  • 1 dribbles to the left wing then dribbles off of a staggered ball-screen from 4 and 5.

As 1 clears the screen, 4 rolls to the basket.

1 looks to pass to 4 for a lay-up or dunk.

  • 5 screens down for 3.

3 cuts to the top of the key for a shot.

    1 passes to 3.

  • If 3 doesn't have a shot, he dribbles to the left wing looking to pass to 5 posting up.

  • If 5 isn't open, 4 flashes to the elbow.

3 passes to 4 who looks to pass to 5 inside.

  • Option 2 starts just like option 1 with 1 dribbling to the left wing then taking the ball off of the staggered ball-screen from 4 and 5.

  • After 1 clears the screen, 4 sets a flare screen for 5.

5 flares to the wing and 4 dives to the low post.

1 looks to pass to 5 for the shot or to 4 at the basket.

  • If neither are open, 5 screens down for 3.

3 cuts up towards the top of the key for a shot.

    5 rolls to the basket.

1 looks to pass to 3 for the shot or to 5 for a lay-up.

  • If 3 doesn't have a shot, he dribbles toward the left wing and looks inside to 5 posting up.

  • Just as in option 1, 4 flashes to the elbow and looks to make the hi/lo pass to 5 inside.
