About This Play/Drill

Great for group workouts forcing the players involved to communicate. Instead of just dictating who is shooting & passing, the ball-handler is forced to make a decision based off their teammates communication. Everyone involved in the drill is held accountable through every detail. The ball-handler has to come off with pace and use their eyes to see what's in front of them and their teammate before making a decision. The ball-handler's teammate has to be vocal and be shot ready.

The drill will only go as smooth as the players communcation and togetherness. It forces them to take ownership as they must do when they get to the season.

Set Up for Small Group Workouts

- Player 1 starts with the ball with player 2 filling the corner. Coach (C) is below the foul line with a basketball.

- Player 1 sets up for the ball screen with 2 options of coming off the screen downhill on an angle (If defense is giving space), or taking the defender to the level of the screen before coming off (If defense is giving pressure).

- As player 1 comes off the ball screen, player 2 is lifting or shaking up to the wing. As player 2 relocates, they will be giving the ball-handler (player 1) 1 of 2 different commands.

Go for time or a total of makes on both sides.

Commands (Color)

- If player 2 calls out a COLOR, player 1 makes a hook pass back to player 2 lifting for a catch and shoot 3 (orange). After player 1 makes the pass, Coach will pass to player 1 at the top of the key for a catch and shoot 3 (green).

Commands (Number)

- If player 2 calls out a NUMBER, player 1 changes speeds into a pull up jump shot or attacks downhill to the rim (orange). After player 1 makes their play, Coach will pass to player 2 for a catch and shoot 3 at the wing (green).
