About This Play/Drill

A drift pass is made from a baseline drive or catch where you force rotation from the defense. Teammates should be spaced in the opposite corner or slot. If they are not in position as the catch or drive occurs, then it is his or her responsibility to move to those spots as an outlet for their teammate. Baseline drives either force defense to rotate with the help defender covering down on the big or the defense begins to ball watch losing sight of their match up and being late on the closeout.

  • Player 1 will pass to Coach and start to sprint towards the wing.

  • Coach will pass ahead to 1 working on doing their work early to catch as the ball is in flight.

  • On the other side, 2 is sprinting to the corner once 1 has passed to the Coach.

  • On 1's catch, he/she is either using a shot fake to get downhill or immediately ripping through.

  • 1 will get drive downhill and make a drift pass (Nash) to 2 in the opposite corner for a catch and shoot 3.

  • 2 will rebound their own shot and go to the end of the line behind 4. 1 will go to the opposite line behind 3.

  • Go for a set number of makes as a team before switching to the other side.

3v0: Drive & Drift

  • 3 drives baseline and throws a drift pass (Nash) to 2 who relocates corner for the shot.

  • 1 fills behind to the wing where 3 just drove the ball.

  • 3 rebounds 2's shot after making the pass and takes the ball behind the baseline under the basket.

  • After 2 shoots, 2 lifts back up to the wing.

  • 4 then dribbles it up to the top of the key and passes to 2.

  • 2 drives baseline and makes a drift pass to 1.

  • 4 fills behind to the wing after the pass.

  • Continue for a set number of makes as a team alternating sides continuous.

3v0: 3 Shot Drive & Drift

  • This is a 3v0 - 3 shot drill that starts with 3 players weaving until the ball gets to player 3 in the middle of the floor.

  • Player 1 will pass to 2 (blue) cutting middle and then sprint behind them to the cone on the opposite side.

  • Player 2 will catch and pass to 3 (red) cutting up the middle of the floor and sprint behind 3 to the opposite side cone.

  • Once 3 catches, 3 will begin to dribble (green) to the cone in the middle.

  • Player's 1, 2, & 3 will go around the cones and start coming back into the half court.

  • 1 & 2 will sprint ahead to the wings and 3 will take a few dribbles before passing ahead to 1.

  • 1 will catch and rip through baseline.

  • 2 will sprint to the opposite corner on 1's drive and prepare early for the shot.

  • 1 will make a drift pass (Nash pass) to 2 for a catch and shoot 3.

  • 3 fills behind to the right wing on 1's drive and 1 sprints out to the left wing after making the drift pass.

  • 3 will receive a pass from Player 6 for a catch and shoot 3, pull up, or finish at the rim.

  • 1 will receive a pass from Player 4 for a catch and shoot 3, pull up, or finish at the rim.
