Basketball Play - 2 Power Gap

2 Power Gap

Kyle Gilreath 08/16/2013

This zone offense play from Wichita State was run versus Louisville in the 2013 Final Four. This play from Gregg Marshall is one of my favorite zone offense actions of all time; mostly because Billy Donovan runs it frequently, and very well. Setting the pick & roll on the top of the zone forces X2 to help or switch onto the ball. On the pass from 2 to 1, X2 is caught trying to recover so X4 starts sliding up to stunt. Making for a perfect opportunity for 5 to duck in hard on the zone for a post-up. For every play Wichita State ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my eBook, “Championship Execution”. See More

Basketball Play - "Ear Pull" - Kansas High/Low Post Entry - Backscreen Lob

"Ear Pull" - Kansas High/Low Post Entry - Backscreen Lob

Bert DeSalvo 01/26/2013

Kansas ran this entry into offense against Texas at the 17:15 mark of the first half of their game on 1/19/13. Kansas usually runs a similar set with a backdoor, flare screen (for PG), then the posts double down for the opposite wing who point guard replaced off the flare. This "ear pull" was a variation on that set that Bill Self has had so much success with over the years at Kansas. If the lob is not there, this set can easily flow into KU's high/low offense See More

Basketball Play - 3 Quick

3 Quick

Kyle Gilreath 02/13/2014

Wichita State frequented this play last year in the 2013 Men's Final Four. The first option is to hit 3 cutting off the post for a lay-up. If he isn't open, 5 steps out for a middle pick & roll and replace for 1. To see EVERY play Wichita State ran in the 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - VCU Over / Under Middle Ball Screen

VCU Over / Under Middle Ball Screen

Dana Beszczynski 11/20/2013

The variety of sets VCU runs in a single game gives their offense a chance to score on every possession. What makes the VCU Rams such a tough team is their execution in the half court and the ability for their guards to handle the ball. In this set, you have the Over / Under cut whch can be used to set-up your shooter or get post entry off the diagonal backscreen for the 4 man. VCU also does a good job reading the defense with quick ball reversal, they are able to finish the set with a middle ball screen setting up penetration in the lane causing the defense to rotate. Shaka Smart is an innovative Coach who puts his players in the best positions to score in their half court offense. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Iverson Toss Back Onball

Miami Iverson Toss Back Onball

Kevin Bruinsma 07/17/2013

Another finish to the Miami Heat's dribble handoff, Iverson cut entry. This time they hit the first screener on the iverson cut popping back to the ball. 2 follows his pass and gets a short pass back from 4 moving to the open side of the floor. He drives it deep as 1 cracks back to set a deep side ball screen in the mid range area. See More

Lady Blue Devils 1-4 High

Dana Beszczynski 12/30/2013

The Lady Blue Devils of Duke have a veteran team back this year in the ACC led by Tricia Liston & Haley Peters. This play is a dribble entry action designed to get a quick post-up action for the 5 or get the best shooter free off the double staggered screen. Joanne P. McCallie is in her seventh season at Duke and has won three ACC Coach of the Year Awards during that time. Coach P has guided the Blue Devils to a 174-35 overall record, a 77-13 mark in ACC action and six NCAA Tournament selections, including a No. 1 seed in 2009 and four straight Elite Eight appearances. The Lady Blue Devils are currently 12- 1 overall their only loss coming to the UCONN Lady Huskies. See More

Basketball Play - Zone Inbounds- Low Stack

Zone Inbounds- Low Stack

Daniel Murphy 04/20/2013

We have run this play with great success at the freshmen, junior varsity, and u15 aau level. It is a very simple, yet effective baseline inbounds play against a 2-3 zone. Make sure 1 is your best shooter so if the defense stays home, you have a wide open look at a 3, or to drag the defense to the corner to open up the screening action inside. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Guard Screen vs 2-3 Zone

Michigan Guard Screen vs 2-3 Zone

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2013

Another good 1/2 court set run against the 2-3 Zone by the Michigan Wolverines. This set utilizes the ball screen as the 3 looks to get in the paint and force rotation situations from the back defenders The Wolverines ran this set effectively and what makes this even more dangerous is the 3 pt shooting ability of Stauskas on the wing spotting up See More
