Basketball Play - Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Matt Hackenberg 01/29/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play looking to use a ball screen veer for either a three-point shot, or a slip off the stagger. It's important to read both, and let the defense decide which action you will pursue. Basketball Play - Stagger Post

Stagger Post

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play to create options on both sides of the court - a post up and a stagger screen. The 1-3-1 alignment makes it really easy to run the action to either side, especially if you have shooters on both wings. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and the more attention paid to the stagger, the more likely the post will be open. 41 Swing Stagger Secondary

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary break action to create options on both sides of the court - a post up and a stagger screen. I like the ball is reversed before half court, creating a good flow to offense. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and the more attention paid to the stagger, the more likely the post will be open. Basketball Play - Box Swing Stagger

Box Swing Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for a three-point shot. I like the movement without this set to keep the defense busy. The only player that doesn't really move is 3. 2 wants to make a great cut off the stagger, setting it up with a great change of pace and change of direction. Of course, the screeners can look to slip if the opening is there. Video below. Basketball Play - Stagger Post Option

Stagger Post Option

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for either a three-point shot or a post up. The post gets two looks in this action, one on each side of the court. The stagger screen happens on the back side once the ball is reversed. The post up combined with the stagger screen is a great option to keep the defense busy with two productive options. Basketball Play - Triple Baseline Screen

Triple Baseline Screen

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for three-point shot. This set requires great timing. I like it for a short clock attempt to find a three. I also think it sets up for the misdirection backdoor set on the back side of the play off of a reverse pivot by the ball handler, although we don't see that in this clip below. Basketball Play - Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. This is a pretty sexy set play with a lot going on. I do think this is more substance than style, and I believe some of the initial options in the set may present opportunities for good shots before the stagger screen.
