Basketball Play - 5 Out: Swing DHO Cross

5 Out: Swing DHO Cross

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video, we use a 5 Out alignment to get the ball inside. What I love about this set is the little on big screen that has the potential to put the defense in a tough spot if the screen is not handled well. There are endless possibilites out of the 5 Out alignment for creative play calling. Basketball Play - 4 Out: DHO Back Screen Cross Screen

4 Out: DHO Back Screen Cross Screen

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 4 Out transition that creates a guard cross screening for a post. I like how the back screen frees up the post player to catch the ball in prime position to read the cross screen. Basketball Play - Crack Down Lob BLOB vs Zone

Crack Down Lob BLOB vs Zone

Matt Hackenberg 12/02/2021

It's baffling to me how often we would score on this simple play. We used it more as a BLOB special, about once every game or so. The less often you run it, the more effective it will be. The counter action, as seen in the diagram and in the embedded video, can also create some decent looks for your team, but that action requires more work once the ball is entered than the initial action. Basketball Play - Box Zip Duck

Box Zip Duck

Matt Hackenberg 12/02/2021

In today’s diagram/video we look at a set play to get the ball inside. A box set is used with some misdirection to get a touch on the block. The embedded video shows a handful of possessions using this set play. Basketball Play - Zip Pin Duck

Zip Pin Duck

Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

In this set we go back to the interior for a set play designed to get a scoring post a touch on the block. The set uses a little misdirection by dribble pushing the entry away from where the post up will materialize. The dribble push triggers a zipper cut, and the ball is swung to a player receiving a pin down screen to be open. The post who pins down, then seals up for the post entry. Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

In this diagram we explore a set to get the ball inside. It has multile options to enter the ball into the post. You can enter it quickly, or you can reverse the ball and let the post follow, fighting for position. All the options are explored in the embedded video. Basketball Play - 1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

Matt Hackenberg 11/24/2021

This is a zone set using a 1-2-2 alignment. I love the play because if nothing materializes, you are left with a 1-3-1 alignment that plays well against most zones. The ball is entered to the wing, and the wing uses a drag dribble down the sideline to shift the defense. The ball is returned to 1 who dribbles to the other side of the court while reading the defense. The action is a stagger screen with a slip into the middle of the defense. Our primary look is the slip to the middle, but we would take the stagger if the defense didn't cover it. Getting the slip in the middle opens up many options for the offense - shot, kick down, kick out. See More

Basketball Play - Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Matt Hackenberg 11/23/2021

Any time we had a functional big man, we always have this in the playbook. The play is simple, and provides a great opportunity to isolate your big. The movement puts the defense in a tough spot because the back side help is removed, so if they front, we can throw over the top for a layup. If they play behind, we have a 1 on 1 opportunity on the block. The play gets right to the point of the set, which I like because it limits the number of ball handlers and decisions that need to be made. You can easilty hide weaker players in the 4 or the 2 spot in this play. Basketball Play - Miami Heat - Elevator Game Winner SLOB

Miami Heat - Elevator Game Winner SLOB

Tony Miller 11/19/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this sideline set from the NBA’s Miami Heat. Great design if you have two good shooters; one can be a decoy to set up the twist and elevator screen. There is also high potential for a screener slipping to the rim if their defender shows on the shooter. Send to your FastDraw library using the button above. Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this awesome design from the Kentucky Wildcats vs Duke in the 2021 Champions Classic. Lots of great action here: -can run out of transition -appears to look like a stagger -2pt option for 5 at the rim -3pt option for 2 after screening Send the play to your FastDraw library using the button above.
