NBA TV recently showed on their "Hardwood Classics" the 2003 NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New Jersey Nets. Basketball Play - Houston Rockets "Elbow Get"

Houston Rockets "Elbow Get"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

The Houston Rockets have hurt teams alot this postseason by utilizing their power forwards as Pick & Roll ballhandlers and forcing the opponents two big men to both defend the Pick & Roll. They have used Josh Smith & Terrance Jones to create easy buckets against both the Mavericks and now the Clippers. They opened up Game 2 with this set and scored multiple times against the Mavericks. The Atlanta Hawks also utilized this set against the Wizards, getting an easy lob. This set was made famous by the Phoenix Suns 7 Seconds or Less offense, naming it "Elbow Get" as they utilized Diaw & Shawn Marion to score off of it often. Rockets get the ball to the power forward at the elbow (or lane line extended) and have Dwight Howard set a ballscreen and roll to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - New Orleans Pelicans "Away Double Backdoor"

New Orleans Pelicans "Away Double Backdoor"

Gibson Pyper 04/23/2015

New Orleans runs alot of Horns sets, and one of their favorite sets is to pass to the elbow and have the point guard and opposite Big set a double down screen for the wing player (usually Eric Gordon) to attack out of a dribble handoff. Against Golden State in Game 1 they ran that same action with a nice counter; instead of executing a dribble handoff with the guard on the wing, the big turns and dribbles at the ballside wing who then cuts backdoor. Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Elbow"

Golden State Warriors "Elbow"

Gibson Pyper 04/16/2015

Golden State Warriors run alot of their sets in the flow of their offense based on reads. They run double stagger, one down and flex actions out of their base offense that end up in Horns. This set is a wrinkle out of the base motion that is designed to get Draymond Green cutting to the rim for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Coastal Carolina Double Stagger

Coastal Carolina Double Stagger

Andrew Greer 03/21/2015

Coastal Carolina used this set on their first scoring play against Wisconsin in their Round 2 matchup. The Chanticleers used this action multiple times adding a few different wrinkles with ball screens along the way. This set starts out in a horns look but then uses back to back stagger screens bringing the ball side guard around on the final screen. See More

Basketball Play - Robert Morris Elbow Strong Double

Robert Morris Elbow Strong Double

Craig LeVasseur 03/19/2015

Here is another common NBA set that Robert Morris ran in the 2nd half against North Florida. Out of a Horns look, Robert Morris ran this Elbow strongside split action where 3 curled on the pin down and 1 bumped back to receive a DHO from the 5 man. A good screen from the 1 man set up a great double pin down by 4 and 2, which took out x3 and resulted in a wide open 3 pointer. See More
