Basketball Play - BLOB - Back Screen with Flare Screen

BLOB - Back Screen with Flare Screen

Basketball HQ 11/08/2012

Set good screens and cut hard. Inbounder needs to hit the players right when they get open and not make them wait on the ball. Every basketball inbound play should be seen as an opportunity to run a set play and get a good look at the basket. The reason that this basketball play works so well is because there are multiple screening actions in a row. If you set good screens and cut hard this play will be very hard for the defense to guard. This play is from the 2011-2012 Georgia Southern season. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA Cut with Back Screen & Pin Down

UCLA Cut with Back Screen & Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/21/2012

This play has two consecutive UCLA screens with a pin down screen on the opposite side. It is important that you set good screens and be a threat to score off of every screen. The more good screens you set the more the defense will become out of position. Set good legal screens and come off of each screen being a threat to score. Passer needs to be able to get the ball to the shooter right as he is coming off the screen if he is open. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a misdirection set to create a gap drive. Using a slice screen to create a catch at the top the key, the action flows one way then peels back for a double gap attack. Basketball Play - 41 Slice Double Stagger

41 Slice Double Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 04/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 4-out alignment. The slice screen into the stagger is not original, but I think hard curling the first stagger and then running a second stagger is very interesting. It may take some time to develop, but I think it's likely the second player off the staggers can be open. Basketball Play - Box Iverson STS

Box Iverson STS

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment. I like how quickly this set play gets to the point. Screen the screener actions can be tough to defend, especially for teams that get through off the ball screens. Princeton Stack Forward Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at an isolation drive out of the Princeton alignment. The set uses a series of back screens to create movement, and then slip the ball right in the middle of the floor to a post to isolate.
