Basketball Play - MSU Transition

MSU Transition

Dymetrius Ware 12/26/2020

MSU is the transition attack we used at OCC and Michigan Dearborn. This was a Coach Izzo early transition look. We had a very good 4/5 who could shoot, so we would use her/him as our trailer and pitch back for a open 3. The guard must make a pass before they get to the time line. If not, then they must run secondary break. *New customers use code SAVE10 for 20% OFF* See More

Basketball Play - 30 Series: Chase Option

30 Series: Chase Option

Irvin Jerry 06/26/2019

30 Series is a secondary break offense that is at it's best when flowing from transition before the defense gets set. If ran at full speed, with proper spacing and effective screens this offense will create high percentage shots for your team. There are four differnet ways to start the offense and it's all based on reads. We want our young ladies to use different options to keep the defense off balance. I first saw this presented by Dave Severns of the Los Angeles Clippers at the Northern Arizona University Coaches Clinic. This is known as the Pistol or Hurry Up Offense in NBA circles. I haven't seen very many women's programs running this and it can be very effective in the women's game. See video below. More 30 Series: Keep Option Dribble Option Down Option See More

Basketball Play - 5 Out Motion Offense: Middle Push Reads

5 Out Motion Offense: Middle Push Reads

KJ Smith 08/14/2018

The following reads are made in both the primary and secondary break. They can be the building blocks of an entire offensive system while developing the IQ and skill sets of your players. Circle: Corner player cuts to the rim as the wing player fades towards the corner for a shot. Drop: Wing player dives to the rim as the corner player lifts up to the wing for a shot. Down: Wing down screen towrads the corner where that player may fill up to the rim for a shot as well as curl or backdoor cut to the rim. The screener will either slip to the rim or pop out to the perimeter. Up: Corner lifts up to flare screen for the wing before slipping to the basket. The cutter may also curl to the rim. If the flare screener does not slip to the basket, they may sprint to the ball for a dribble handoff. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Fist STS

Boston Celtics - Fist STS

KJ Smith 05/15/2018

Quick hitter from the Celtics playbook. A drag screen during the secondary break takes place while a cross screen for the post occurs under the rim. Afterwards the drag screener will pindown for the cross screener to get a shot from 3. It's important for the weak side corner to be filled to prevent help on the down screen. If there isn't a shot, 3 receives a ball screen from 5 to attack with the floor spread. FMS Blog: Boston Celtics - Keeping it Simple with Spread Offense See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - 34 Cross Flare Fire

Golden State Warriors - 34 Cross Flare Fire

John Zall 06/08/2016

The Golden State Warriors ran a stagger baseline screen for 2 to the right wing. The ball was reverses in the secondary break from the point guard to the trailing big over to the 2 guard on the right wing. The second screener in the original stagger screen then turned and set a cross screen for 4 to the post. 2 enterered the ball in the post to 4 on the right block. As soon as he entered the ball he got a "flare" screen from 5 for the top. Once the defender guarded that action the 5 immediately turned and set a "fire" screen, which is a re screen back towards the ball, for 2. 2 caught the pass out of the post from 4 for a jump shot. Basketball Play - 2 Rip (Billy Donovan Play for Stretch Big)

2 Rip (Billy Donovan Play for Stretch Big)

Jacob Collins 07/30/2015

As a University of Kentucky fan I have been able to watch Billy Donovan several times a year since I was a kid. It's still burned into my mind excellent post players such as David Lee, Jo Noah, and Al Horford dominating my beloved Cats on the block. Although, those are certainly not the only posts that have excelled in his system. This is one of my personal favorites of Coach Donovan and I look forward to seeing how well it works for Kevin Durant. This play is great for multiple reasons. The first, it is a natural counter to a normal secondary break action for the Gators, a spread pick and roll. The guard rejects the screen to drive baseline. The 3 man (normally for Coach Donovan is an excellent 3pt shooter) is spaced in the corner. The key to this play, is freeing up a stretch 4 for an open look. After dishing and spacing, the 1 man leads the stagger for the 4 while the 5 man completes the stagger. What happens if there is a big to big switch? This all depends on your personnel. Let's apply this to Coach Donovan's new team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. If this play is ran for Durant at the 4, the options for the defense aren't pretty. If the screen is gapped, you run the risk of Durant having a wide open look. If you switch, you risk having a center guarding arguably thefts scorer in the league. Again, you don't have KD on your squad and I know I don't. But perhaps this can get you an isolated mismatch. Questions/comments/concerns? Message me on twitter @jacobcollins34 See More
