Basketball Play - Backdoor Set Against Pressure Defenses

Backdoor Set Against Pressure Defenses

Luke Riegel 10/07/2012

When defenses have tried to deny passes to the perimeter, we've run this play to get them to back-off with their pressure. The 4 man must be able to get open at the elbow and deliever a good pass to the back-cutting 2 man once he catches. Finally, the dribble handoff allows the point guard and the 4 man to make a play on the open side of the floor. See More

Basketball Play - 3FTC Man Down Defense

3FTC Man Down Defense

Greg White 09/04/2012

Part of Daily Defensive DNA. Drill can be 4 on 4 or 5/5. It is a live drill. Anytime a player isnt (1) in proper stance (2) in proper position or (3) not communicating they are removed from the drill. This teaches the importance of each possession. Option 1: Keep teams and score for a period of time. Losing teams have "parting gifts" for not winning. Option 2: Remove player and perform a " You don't get to play defense" activity the remainder of the possession. (treadmill, bleachers) See More

Basketball Play - Doubling the Post - Part 2

Doubling the Post - Part 2

Mo Dakhil 03/28/2017

Rotations are extremely difficult to nail down and teams must drill constantly to make sure there is an understanding of who is rotating. The other factor that makes these rotations work is constant communication. The best defenses are constantly talking and communicating with each other. Another note when practicing the rotations, it is important to have all players practice every position in the rotation. It helps them learn what their teammates are doing but situations may occur where they will be in position. See More

Basketball Play - Transition Track Down:

Transition Track Down:

FastModel Sports 04/15/2015

Place a cone at the feet throw line extended at the opposite end of the court. The offense can’t cut in towards the basket until after they reach that cone, which allows the defense a bit more time to catch up and avoids collisions at mid court. The defensive player works to track down the offensive player and make a play on the ball. It is important that players do not get out of control during this drill, and that they never hit one of their teammates while in the air...we don’t want anyone getting injured. Instead, the defender needs to work on doing one of the following: sprinting in front of the offensive player; knocking the ball out from behind; blocking the shot from behind; or catching up completely and working to stop further penetration. (Note: while this is primarily a defensive drill, it is also a great way for your players to learn to finish with pressure and/or small contact on the offensive side of the ball.) See More

Basketball Play - Drill of the Day: 7 Person Press Drill

Drill of the Day: 7 Person Press Drill

Daniel Murphy 10/21/2013

One of the worst feelings as a coach is watching your team get pressed and turn the ball over. Conversely, when your press is wreaking havoc and you're getting easy buckets off your defense it's a GREAT feeling. If your team is not super athletic and you're playing an athletic team that employs an aggressive full court defense this is a great drill to prepare you for the tempo and speed of your opponent. Basketball Play - Play of the Day 09-07-2011: Defensive 5-Second Call

Play of the Day 09-07-2011: Defensive 5-Second Call

FastModel Sports 09/07/2011

Today's FastDraw Play of the Day takes you to Eurobasket 2011 in Lithuania, for a look at the defensive side of the ball. In Second Round action today, France needed a defensive stop against Turkey to seal the victory. Turkey had the ball out of bounds, down 3 points, with 5 seconds to play in the game, but failed to inbound the ball within the 5-second time limit to do so, and France hung on to win the game. Every coach at one time or another is in a position where their team needs to force a 5-second call to have a chance to win the game. Usually, it occurs when trailing, and rarely does the team pull it off under pressure. In this case France used it to clinch victory in a game they were leading. The video below show you exactly how this play described above unfolded and allowed France to walk away with a Eurobasket victory: See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies - Hammer

Memphis Grizzlies - Hammer

Justin Lewis 03/28/2024

The Memphis Grizzlies opened their 3/27 contest against the Lakers with this set. While Bane did not take the shot in the corner, this action created an early look at a three for their best shooter. The empty corner drive for the point guard plus the cut out of the corner by the wing makes the defense think about help on the very first possession of the game. See More
